The Missing Mutant

"What is this about?" Dr Wilder told Laura Stone.  Laura was training with the Mutant Research Department, as yet she had been unable to impress her superiors, but finally, she may have finally found something to impress them with.  Laura coughed, clearing her throat in preparation for the news she was about to give.
"Well, one of my friends happens to know a girl named Anna Futura...” Laura began.
"Get to the point; I have a busy day ahead of me," Dr Wilder snapped.
"This girl happens to be a mutant, with telepathic abilities...” Laura smiled, "...she can also create illusions of some sort, maybe to confuse her victim."  Laura had no proof that this mutant would ever consider harming people, but she knew this would make Dr Wilder much more interested.
"Interesting," Dr Wilder replied, pausing for a moment to think.  "Do you know this girl at all?"
"Yes, but only through my friend," Laura replied, trying her best to give the answers Dr Wilder wants.
"Good.  Well I want her outside here, at the main entrance, tomorrow 2pm," Dr Wilder immediately replied.
"But, I d...." Laura began to speak; she found the plans a little sudden and possibly hard, due to her not knowing this mutant very well.
"No buts, this will look very good on your part," Dr Wilder tactfully assured Laura.
"Yes Dr Wilder, I'll work on it right away," Laura replied and rushed out of the office.  Laura quickly walked her bag, she took out her mobile phone and began typing a text message;
"Hi there Anna, it's Laura, was wondering if u want to come shopping with me and Emily tomorrow, Emily doesn't have her phone with her, please reply to me." Laura then entered Anna's mobile number and sent the text to Anna.

Later that night, Futura was asleep in his bed.  In the same room sat Jack, playing on his Play station, Grant Theft Auto, one of his many games involving guns and cars.  As Jack was playing the came he heard a sound come from behind him, he turned his head towards Futura, who was no longer awake, but sat up in his bed.
"Are you Ok?" Jack asked Futura.
"I'm not sure, I've just had the oddest dream," Futura paused, " But it didn't seem like a proper dream, seemed real, like the visions I have."
"Wow.  What happened?" Jack replied.
"Not too sure, it was pretty mixed up.  But I got the feeling it was a about my sister, Anna, something bad, man I really hope it was just a dream."  Futura sighed.
"I'm sure it was mate, otherwise you'd be seeing this stuff when your awake, it's more likely what you saw was a dream," Jack reassured him.
"Thanks Jack, I better get back to sleep, I'm shattered," Futura replied and lay back down in bed.

The next day, Futura, Jack and Blade were just leaving the mansion to collect new parts for the mansions new aircraft.  Just as they were getting into Futura's car, a voice called out to them;
"Hey - wait up, I'm getting a lift remember!" Alexia shouted as she ran to the car.
"Of course, get in then girl," Jack replied, showing Alexia a quick wink.  Alexia never quite knew whether his winks were personal or just his personality trait, either way she didn't mind, she found him to be absolutely stunning.  Nonetheless Alexia returned a wink in Jack's direction, followed by a shy smile, she paused for a moment to think of what this meant.
"Are you coming or what!" Futura called, eager to get the trip out of the way.  Alexia immediately got into the car.

Anna waited on Branch Street, just a short distance from the Government Science Research Centre'.
"Hey Anna," a familiar voice called.
"Hi Laura," Anna replied, although more concerned with Sarah's whereabouts, "Where's Sarah?"
"She couldn't make it, family matters I believe," Laura replied and smiled.
"Oh, Ok," Anna replied, a bit uncomfortable with the situation of a shopping trip with an almost stranger.  As they were walking into the town centre, closer to the Government Science Research Centre', the church clock began chiming, indicating two o'clock.  Laura decided to distract Anna from any possible indications of what would soon happen to her;
"So what shops would you like to go to?" Laura asked.
"I don't mind, whatever we fancy, I suppose," Anna replied, still feeling slightly out of place.  Just as she was about to suggest a trip to MacDonald's, she felt somebody grab her from behind, holding her arms, just as she was about to use her powers, she felt something hit her head, her vision was gone, then.....She was unconscious.

In the back of the car sat Alexia and Jack, both singing along to the rock music playing on the radio.
"Geez, how long left Marcus, this kid's giving me headache," Blade complained to Futura, Futura didn't answer, just continued driving taking in the music.  Alexia stopped singing after hearing Blade's complaints, she turned to Jack who had also stopped, they then quietly laughed together, Alexia couldn't believe she was sat next to one of he best looking mutants she had met.  She looked at his smile, making her feel....Suddenly, Futura hit the breaks, skidding causing slight rotation.
"HOLY CRAP MARCUS - who taught you to drive?" Blade shouted, he looked towards Futura, noticing the sweat on his forehead.  Futura took off his shades, and then covered his eyes and forehead with his hands.
"Way to drive Marcus," Jack joked, Alexia as usual, laughed.
"Shut it Jack," Blade told Jack, in his usual tone, "Hey, you alright Mac?" he then asked Futura.  Futura removed his hands and paused for a moment, before turning to Blade;
"We've got to go into town, right now!" Futura told them.
"What? But the parts - today, why?" Blade asked.
"It's my sister, she's in trouble and I think it's at that science place, it came into my head, clear as it ever could be" Futura quickly replied.
"You sure about this mate?" Jack asked, remembering the dream Futura had the night before.
"Definitely, I can't even contact her, it must be serious, we got to go," Futura replied, not waiting for the others' agreement he turned around, heading toward the town.
"Hey, Lexi, you can get out near the shops," Blade told Alexia, after deciding she shouldn't go near government buildings after her history with them.
"No way, I'm coming too, I'll help," Alexia replied
"You will get out the car at the shops if I have to throw you out!" Blade told her firmly, "I aren't risking it, now shut up and let us think."  Alexia immediately pulled a frown behind his back, watched by Jack.
"You know he's only looking out for you," Jack assured her, Alexia smiled and quietly said "Yeh".

Anna opened her eyes to find herself in a strange room; the walls were covered with white tiles, from the ceiling hung bright, blinding lights.  Her initial thoughts were to get up and run, she knew this place wasn't right, she tried to get up but found herself unable to move, she had been tied down.
"Wouldn't bother trying to get up," a male voice told her.
"Where am I? And who are you?" Anna questioned the Asian looking man, who had long brown hair and a very muscular figure.
"My name is Dr Ming, I run the Mutant Research Department, and you are in the Government Science Research Centre." Dr Ming smiled
"What? Let me out of this place," Anna tried to use her telepathic powers to contact her brother, but nothing happened, apart from a short beeping sound coming from a nearby machine.
"I wouldn't bother trying to use your powers, mutant," Dr Ming told her, "Your powers have been temporarily ceased, can't have you unexpectedly leaving us, or performing those little illusions you like." Dr Ming got up and left the room.

Futura drove into the main part of the town, quickly slamming the breaks.  He looked at Alexia through his rear view mirror.
"Out kid," Blade abruptly told Alexia.
"Sorry Lexi, Professor Davids would never forgive us if we let something happened to you," Futura assured her.
"Yeh, sure," Alexia nodded her head, "I understand". Alexia got out of the car, as soon as she closed the door the car sped off.  Alexia had no intention of going to the shops, she decided to find the nearest taxi rank and get a lift to the Government Science Research Centre.
Back in Futura's car, Jack sat thinking to himself about the way they treated Alexia.
"You know Blade, Alexia isn't as immature as you think," Jack told Blade.
"Maybe not, but I am not risking anything," Blade replied.
"Look, can we just concentrate on what we three are doing now, my sister is in trouble." Futura told them.  Five minutes later, the team of three arrived at the Research Centre.
"This is it then. What shall we do?" Jack asked.
"I say we just barge our way in," Blade contributed his plan.
"Maybe, but a little more organised than that." Futura replied, "Jack, for a start, you can make a duplicate, make it so it leads those jerks away from us. Blade, well - you just do....just do what you usually," Blade smirked; Futura continued "I will try mess with as many of their minds as possible."

As Anna lay, she felt yet another needle been injected into her arm.
"That should do it - for now," Dr Ming told his workmate - Dr Wilder.  This injection didn't make her feel drowsy like the other; in fact she didn't feel different at all.
"W-What did you just do?" Anna asked.
"Don't worry, it's all just part of our experiments," Dr Ming told her, he then turned away and left the room.
"Please - let me go," Anna quietly asked Dr Wilder.
"I'm sorry, but we haven't finished with you yet, maybe if you help us the procedure may be quicker," Dr Wilder looked at Anna, "Tell me more about your powers."

"Here goes," Jack closed his eyes, concentrating on the duplicate, programming it to carry out one task, to divert the guards away from the entrance. Suddenly, a figure began to appear in front of Jack, like a projection, with exactly the same colours - but transparent within seconds, the colours filled in - no longer transparent, in front of Jack was an exact copy. "Ok - Go!" Jack told his duplicate, immediately it began running, straight towards the main door.  Two guards immediately noticed him; the duplicate ran round a corner of the building, the guards following him.
"Right - let’s go!" Futura quietly announced, the three of them ran towards the door, Blade tried the handle, luckily the door was open, enabling them to enter un-noticed.
"Where now?" Blade asked Futura. Futura looked at the signposts which were labelled with departments and the directions, after a little concentration, he recognised one department; 'Lab 2b', "Let's try that," Futura pointed to the sign.  They then ran down the corridor, towards the Lab.

Alexia got out of the taxi.  She scanned the Science Research Centre premises, charging a bolt of electricity in her hand and smiled as she realised there were no guards at the door, she quickly ran to the door and entered the building.  Before she had chance to figure out which corridor to go down, she heard footsteps, immediately she ran into the nearest room.  She closed the door and stood against it, listening for the footsteps to pass by, but they didn't pass by, they stopped right outside the door and she then heard voices.  Alexia looked around and saw the large curtains hanging, so she ran and hid behind them.

"You know - Anna, it would be better for yourself if you co-operated," Dr Wilder told Anna. "All I w...." All of a sudden the door flung open, Dr Wilder quickly looked at the door, there stood three men, all dressed in weird clothes - mutant clothes.  "Who are you, what are you doing here?"
"We've come to get my sister back," Futura replied.  Anna suddenly felt a sense of relief.  Blade ran towards Dr Wilder, holding his hand blades in front, Dr Wilder quickly pressed a small red button before been knocked to the ground by Blade, who then held her down.  Futura ran towards his sister, quickly removed the metal strips that were holding her down, he then removed wires which were connected to her forehead.
"You idiots - you won't get away with this, I've alerted all the guards, they'll destroy you all," Dr Wilder shouted.  Futura realised they were surrounded, he tried his best to think of an escape plan.
"I've got it - you three not matter what you think you see, don't believe it, just follow me, no matter what!" Anna told them, before any of them could reply, the room began to change appearance, it began to resemble the mansion, and it looked as though they were standing in the kitchen.  Anna motioned them to follow her, Blade let go of Dr Wilder, who know looked exactly like Anna.  The real Anna began walked towards a wall, Blade was confused, until he saw her walk straight through it, he realised this was where the door was in reality.  The group then walked towards a door, this door looked exactly like the door to Futura's room, they opened the door and found themselves outside the Research Centre.
"The cars this way," Futura told Anna as they ran out of the Research Centre grounds.  They all quickly got into the car; Futura didn't waste any time setting off.

Alexia was confused, why was she stood in her bedroom? A minute ago she was stood behind a curtain in an office.  She no longer heard the voices talking, so she stepped out from behind the 'wardrobe', she couldn't believe it, this was her room.  She walked towards her mirror, but before her eyes, the mirror turned into a bookshelf, she turned around and realised she was back in the office again.  She saw a group of three guards stood in the same room, straight opposite her, before she could run; she felt a sharp pain in her neck.
"Dr Ming is going to be pleased," the guard smiled, as he watched Alexia drop to the ground.

Later that evening, Jack went to see Lightnin, "Hi Katina, have you seen Alexia? Haven't seen her since we dropped her off in town and it’s getting pretty late," Futura raised his eyebrows as he heard Jack talking.
"Maybe she just got delayed - we ladies like shopping!" Lightnin replied.
"Yeh - I suppose," Jack replied and smiled. Futura sat up; "No! Something’s wrong, it's Alexia," Futura replied.....

Alexia opened her eyes; she couldn’t move her arms, "Where am I?" Alexia shouted.  She watched as the shadow of a woman walked towards her, then the face became clear, it was Dr Wilder.
"Welcome back Alexia, so glad you could make it," Dr Wilder smiled.....

To Be Continued.

The Missing Mutant (Part 2)

“What is it? What’s happened to her?” Jack worriedly asked Futura.
”I don’t exactly know, but it isn’t good, we have to go back to the Research Centre,” Futura replied, with a worried look on his face.  He turned to his sister, noticing she looks a little troubled.  Illusionist had been preparing herself to tell Futura she was not staying around, but now she wouldn’t feel right, not help the people who helped her.

“Anna? Are you ok?” Futura asked his sister, who immediately looked attentive.

“Of – course,” she smiled.

“Good.  It shouldn’t be too hard, I need Axle, I know what the place looks like, if I link with his mind, he will be able to teleport there, with me,” Futura told them.

“I hope it is as easy as it sounds,” Jack replied.

The room was dark and cold, just like the cell they kept her in the last time, but this time it was worse – she could not move, she was strapped to the bed.

“Let me go,” Alexia shouted, but she knew she was alone or if she wasn’t – they wouldn’t help her anyway, they have their project back.

Meanwhile, in Dr Wilder was in a late meeting with a dozen of her staff members;

“Sorry for keeping you all for so long, if you could all just sign the agreements, we can all go home.”

“Ready?” Futura asked Axle as they linked hands and minds.

“Ready as I’ll ever be,” Axle replied.  Jack stood in the background watching, hoping Alexia would get back safe, he really liked the girl – even if she did go off the rails a bit, within seconds, Axle and Futura were gone.

“Where are we?” Axle asked Futura, as he stood in darkness.

“This is the place they kept Anna, it’s one of the last rooms I got a proper look at,” Futura moved the palms of his hands along the wall until he finally felt the light switch, he turned on the lights.

“Well, nobody here,” Axle commented, “Can’t you link with Alexia’s mind, ask her where she is?”

“I’ll try,” Futura replied, he concentrated, focusing on Alexia, within seconds he stopped, “She doesn’t know which room she’s in; she said it is too dark, if we tried teleporting, we could end up in any room.”  Axle felt into his pocket, he pulled out a gun;

“What the hell are you doing Axle?” Futura quietly said.

“Don’t worry, it’s just to stun them,” Axle smirked, “I for one don’t want to end up like Alexia.”

“Ok, for a moment there I thought you were turning into Blade,” Futura laughed, referring to their ‘heavy handed’ team-mate.

“So, what’s the plan now?” Axle asked, now reading Alexia’s mind had not helped them.

“Well, to quote Blade, ‘we go in there and tear this place down ‘til we find her’”. Futura replied, “Don’t tell him I said that…”  Futura then thought for a moment, “Right I have it, we go out there and as soon as we see a staff member, I want you to stun teleport so you can grab them, which should give me chance to get into their mind.”

“Dammit, that kid – I told her not to come, why don’t you kids listen,” Blade mumbled to Katina and Jack.

“Hey, don’t be so mad at her, you know what happened with them before, don’t tell me you wouldn’t have done the same thing if you had been in her situation,” Jack replied.

“I would have done it – but I wouldn’t have got caught,” Blade angrily replied, then smirked.

“Stop it you two, whether or not you would have done it is beyond he point, I just hope she gets back safe, so I can ask her what the hell she was doing,” Lightnin replied.

Alexia remained laid on the bed, with her eyes wide open, just waiting for her next visit from Dr Wilder.  All of a sudden, the room was lit, stood at the end of her bed was Futura and Axle, she immediately smiled;

“Thank god!” Alexia said to them.  As Futura removed the straps from Alexia, Axle stood looking at her, with an angry expression on his face;

“What on earth were you thinking,” he said to her, his frown slowly turned into a happy expression.

“Right, I’ll be back for you in a moment,” Axle said to Futura, as he held Alexia, before she could argue, she had been teleported back to the mansion; Axle immediately disappeared to get Futura.  Alexia looked at the three faces opposite her, Jack looked happy, Blade looked angry and Lightnin – Alexia wasn’t sure what Lightnin was thinking.

“I’m really sorry guys,” Alexia remorsefully told them.

“It’s ok Lexi, you did hat you…” Jack began.

“You should be, do you realise what could have happened, and the danger you put yourself and the others in?” Lightnin shouted.  Axle and Futura returned to the mansion, in the same room as the others.

“Give her a break,” Futura told them, he understood what Alexia was going through.

“Ok, I will, but the Professor is going to be so angry,” Lightnin replied, she knew the Professor was a forgiving person – but she had to make Alexia realise what she had done.  Alexia immediately left the room, Jack was about to follow her, but he was grabbed by Axle;

“Leave her, give her chance to calm down,” he told Jack.

“Sorry guys, I just had to make her realise what she had done, you all know I think the world of her,” Lightnin told the others.

“It’s ok,” Axle told her, as he put his arm around her waist.

Later that night, Jack decided to go see Alexia, he knocked on her bedroom door and soon after opened it;

“Lexi, you ok?” he called, when he stepped into the room, she had gone – so had her belongings, “Oh, Alexia.”  Jack sat on the end of Alexia's bed, he looked on the floor, there he found a photograph of Alexia, he picked it up and took it with him as he left the room.
