Pawprints in the Sand One night I had a wondrous dream, One set of footprints there were seen, The footprints of my precious Lord, While He carried me along the shore. But then some stranger prints appeared, So I asked, "What were these prints for? These prints are neither yours nor mine, And Lord, they are in sets of four." "My child", he said in sober tones, "At one time you were so close to giving up, That I called on a little dog to walk along. And for awhile this was just what you needed. Your pup filled your time with love and blessings, He kept you so busy there was no time for fussing. But then one day I had to call him home. And you were heartbroken and all alone, But the time you had together was never forgotten, And even though it hurt to lose your little dog, I knew you'd be better, for the love you had known. ~Author Unknown |

My Dog is a Mutt She might not have a pedigree but people can't belive what they see. She's friendly, well behaved, and grateful that her life was saved. Some people can't belive that she is a mutt once they know they feel differently. But, hundreds like her die every day. If only more people knew to say No to the the puppy in the pet store, go to the shelter and look for, dogs like her that line the walls, hoping and waiting for someone to call, Out their name and take them home, to pet them, love them, and give them a bone. My dog is as beautiful as can be. and she is absolutly perfect for me. So take a trip to the local shelter, and adopt a dog, and make her life better. You can find the best friend you ever had, and just think, her life was in your hand. By: Katie Barrett |

Prayer From a Stray Dear God, please send me somebody who'll care! I'm tired of running, I'm sick with despair My body is aching, it's so racked with pain And dear God, I pray as I run in the rain That someone will love me and give me a home A warm cozy bed and a big juicy bone My last owner tied me all day in the yard Sometimes with no water and God, that was hard! So I chewed my leash God and I ran away To rummage in garbage and lie as a stray But now God, I'm tired and hungry and cold And I'm so afraid that I'll never grow old They've chased me with sticks, hit me with stones While I run the streets just looking for bones! I'm not really bad God, please help if you can For I have become just a "victim of man!" I'm wormy dear God and I'm ridden with fleas And all that I want is an owner to please! If you find one for me God,, Ill try to be good I won't chew their shoes and I'll do as I should. I'll love them, protect them and try to obey When they tell me to sit, to lie down or to stay! I don't think I'll make it too long on my own Cause I'm getting so weak and I'm, Oh so alone Each night as I sleep in the bushes I cry Cause I'm so afraid God, that I'm gonna die! I've got so much love and devotion to give That I should be given a new chance to live. So dear God please, please answer my prayer And send me somebody who will really care. --Unknown |
LOVE FELT AT LAST No more lonely cold nights or hearing that I'm bad. No more growling belly from the meals I never had. No more scorching sunshine with a water bowl that's dry. No more complaining neighbors about the noise when I cry. No more hearing "shut up," "get down" or "get out of here"! No more feeling disliked, only peace is in the air. Euthanasia is a blessing, though some still can't see Why I was every born if I weren't meant to be. My last day of living was the best I ever had. Someone held me very close, I could see she was very sad. I kissed the lady's face, and she hugged me as she cried. I wagged my tail to thank her, then I closed my eyes and died. –Animal Shelter Volunteer Massena, NY |
Two Little Shadows I saw a young woman, With eyes full of laughter, And two little shadows Came following after. Whereever she moved, They were right there Rubbing on her skirts Jumping on her chair. Before her, behind her... They were an adhesive pair. "Don't you get weary, As day after day Your two little tagalongs Get in your way?" She smiled as she shook Her pretty young head, And I'll always remember The words that she said. "It's good to have shadows That run when you run, That play when your happy, And howl when your hum... For only you have shadows When your life's filled with sun." |
A Dog's Prayer Treat me kindly, my beloved master, for no heart in all the world is more grateful for kindness than the loving heart of me. Do not break my spirit with a stick, for though I should lick your hand between the blows, your patience and understanding will more quickly teach me the things you would have me do. Speak to me often, for your voice is the world's sweetest music, as you must know by the fierce wagging of my tail when your footsteps falls upon my waiting ear. When it is cold and wet, please take me inside, for I am now a domesticated animal, no longer used to bitter elements. And I ask no greater glory than the privilege of sitting at your feet beside the hearth. Had you no home, I would rather follow you through ice and snow than rest upon the softest pillow in the warmest home in all the land, for you are my god and I am your devoted worshipper. Keep my pan filled with fresh water, for although I should not reproach you were it dry, I cannot tell you when I suffer thirst. Feed me clean food, that I may stay well, to romp and play and do your bidding, to walk by your side, and stand ready, willing and able to protect you with my life should your life be in danger. And, beloved master, should the great Master see fit to deprive me of my health or sight, do not turn me away from you. Rather hold me gently in your arms as skilled hands grant me the merciful boon of eternal rest - and I will leave you knowing with the last breath I drew, my fate was ever safest in your hands. |
A young pup and older dog lay on the shaded grass and watched the reunions, sometimes a man, sometimes a woman sometimes a whole family would approach the Rainbow Bridge. Suddenly the pup said "Look, something wonderful is happening!" -- the older dog stood up and barked, "quickly, get over to the path". The puppy whined "but that's not my owner" but did as he was told. Thousand of animals lined the path where a figure in white approached. As the figure passed each animal, it bowed it head in love and respect until the figure passed and went toward the bridge. The young pup asked the old dog "was that an angel?" but the old dog answered "that was more than an angel, that was someone who rescued unwanted pets like you and me" And God grants.. this person.. A last act of Rescue.. To lead across the bridge.. all those that died before rescue could get to, puppy mill dogs ectra.. The ones that had no loving family to wait for.. Let it be so.. |
