CLUB NEWS

(14/9/04) SMF WEDNESDAY CHAMPIONS. After chasing down 122 to defeat the mighty rusty gates in the prelim, the boys from SMF repeated the dose on the hooters, chasing down 116 to deservedly win the competition. Well played SMF.

(9/9/04) SOCIAL STATS. As of 9/9/04 I will no longer be keeping the stats from social cricket. I will type in the remaining stats up till the end of August 2004. Hopefully this will allow a little bit of extra time to keep the club stats up to date, as opposed to the current situation. The A, B & D grade stats from the 2002-03 outdoor season are completed & the C's should be done soon.

(5/9/04) GOOD LUCK to all those people in the ISSA TOP TEN for superleague & well done to the CLUB MVP winners. Both will be listed here shortly.

(4/9/04) SHARKS WIN 4 FLAGS. Unfortunately we had 11 teams into the Grand Final & therefore lost 7. We end out winning 3 x netball & 1 x cricket. No stats for the Over 35's GF - just as well, they got hammered by the favoured Modbury outfit. I am also missing elim & grand final netball results & finals results for 8 ball.

(8/8/04) MISSING STATS. Missing plenty of stats from the recent away games. The few that were handed to me, or that I grabbed, will be entered. Also I forgot to type in the SMF stats for the losing prelim vs hooters. Stay tuned for the outdoor stats to finally be updated before the new season starts eh.

(4/8/04) PREMIERSHIP HANGOVER. After a bye in the first round the hooters got hammered by the rusty gates in round 2. 188 to 12. It was the hooters equal lowest score, biggest defeat and biggest total against. Lucky the hooters bypassed em in the finals. Yippee.

(21/7/04) HOOTERS WEDNESDAY NIGHT PREMIERS. After beating SMF in the prelim (44 vs 35 in the battle of the reversing gas trucks), The Hooters took on the wizard sleeves (102 vs 85 prelim winners against the gates), in the GF. In somewhat of an upset, considering the hooters had not beaten them during the season proper, the hooters managed to win 95 to 82. Considering the hooters only lost 5 wickets to the sleeves 16 it was a pretty close game. Keven Lane was clearly best on court and probably the difference between the two sides on the night (5/-10 with the ball & no outs for 15 runs with the bat + a couple of crucial run outs). (SCORESHEET10)

(12/7/04) SHARKS SUFFER losses in the A,B,C & D Grades away to Stepney. I do not know if we were fired up enough or not, but suffice to say stepney were ready & waiting. We also lost the U/17s but managed to win the 30s, 35s & ladies to claim a few points for the club championship. The netball broke even & the 8 ball lost 8-7. I think we lost the day 10&1/2 to 6&1/2. Away to woodlands this sat (17/7/04).

(12/7/04) GATES SQUARE LEDGER. The rusty gates squared the ledger with the wizard sleeves, winning 73 to 67 in a high standard game with the bowling & fielding from both sides creating enormous pressure on the batters. You would have to say it was of the highest standard for a social game and well worth watching. The finals start this wednesday (14/7/04) with 2 knockout prelims (gates vs sleeves) & (hooters vs smf). Unfortunately with the new six team format, the fossils (well renowned for causing the odd upset in finals) will not be part of it. Should be a good finals series. Good luck to all concerned & also all the other cricketers playing finals on any of the other nights.

(28/6/04) MODBURY MASSACRE. The sharks have suffered one of their worst results in recent history, losing all but 1 game of cricket. Even the 8 ball lost. Some of the results were close/unlucky, but that is all part of the game. The chiefs are always hard to beat at modbury and the sharks reserve the right to return the favour in the final home & away round. At this stage I would say stepney will be facing a fired up sharks outfit in most grades when we travel there in two weeks time. GOOD LUCK SHARKS.

(16/6/04) SHARKS DOING OK. After 3 rounds the sharks are reasonably on track for another club championship. Keep up the good work you netballers. Work hard you cricketers. Round 4 vs Camden this Saturday 19th June at M/Vale.

(12/6/04) SHARKS DO WELL AT NATIONALS. Apparently Sambo played pretty well in the Opens & we had 3 lads (Nick Bowen, Brian Sheedy, Michael Ledgard) in the 18's which made the GF, so I am sure they enjoyed being a part of that. Also the Ladies made the finals (finished 4th) so well done to Amy Marrett & Kim Marret.

(20/5/04) SLEEVES SET STANDARD. The wizard sleeves have upped the ante on wednesday nights with a 120 to 37 pasting of the rusty gates. Wednesday nights ARE GO.

(17/5/04) SHARKS START WELL. The Morphett Vale Sharks got the club championship trophy off to a good start by winning most grades in the first round of superleague at home to Stepney, including a thriller in the mens A Grade cricket.

(22/4/04) WIZARD SLEEVES DEBUT. A new team, the wizard sleeves played their first game last night. They easily accounted for the hooters 134 to 59. Mainly Brighton outdoor players, with some familiar names - Matty Skrokov, Chaddy Campbell & Jeremy Astill. I look forward to seeing them take on the gates in 4 weeks time.

(21/4/04) CHUBBIES WIN!!! They always win a game a season & this time it was the fossils who were their victims.

(19/4/04) COBRAS WIN COMFORTABLY. The state side easily accounted for the sharks composite side in a trial on April 16th. I think the final score was about 139 to 64 (eight ball overs). Well done to Jason Carne who did a great job as the last minute umpire. Best for the cobras were Brett Martin & David Sampson, while Brian Sheedy performed very well for the sharks.

(14/4/04) Sambo named state vice captain. David Sampson has been named vice captain of the state side for the upcoming nationals (to be held in Modbury, S.A.) It is well deserved.

(14/4/04) The mini nationals were on again recently in Mildura. The two Sheedy Bros. went up there to be a part of the state side & end out runners up. I believe they lost to a strong ACT side. Go the sheedseses.

(14/4/04) Well Done to Mick Miller, Dicko Papps & Lou Dickeson on winning the Over 30's Mixed Netball World Cup in South Africa recently. Another shark, Mel Gillis, also went and won a world cup (under 18's).

(6/4/04) AFTER DOMINATING the monday night comp for several years SMF are moving to wednesdays to take on the bigger fish. This is good news for the existing teams on both nights, so well done to SMF.

(6/4/04) ICC SHARKS CLUB PRESOS. the winners are: Cricketer of the Year: M.Tonkes, Sect 1 Batting K.Nicolle, Sect 1 Bowling M.Tonkes, Sect 3 Batting N.Johns, Sect 3 Bowling D.Lowe, Sect 4 Batting B.Barnes, Sect 4 Bowling C.Williams, Sect 6 Batting S.Collett, Sect 6 Bowling C.Barber, Keeper of the Year S.Loizi, Fielder of the Year B.Lowe. CONGRATULATIONS to the winners & well done to those who showed up to support the club.

(6/4/04) GATES TOO STRONG. Rusty Gates win again 102 vs 62 Fossils. Looked like a good game in the making, with the fielding on both sides a highlight, however Matthew Tonkes turned the game with a -11 over in the 5th & The Fossils never recovered. Well done again to Paul Sheedy (umpire) for all the tight decisions he had to make on the night. The Fossils prelim win over The Hooters is worth a mention: 1) They had not beaten The Hooters for the entire season & 2) Rocket & Harry hit a pair of 5's off the last 2 balls to win. Fossilised??? (SCORESHEET8)

(18/11/03) Well done to the ladies (& Jags) for a sensational effort in finishing runners up in the recent under 21 netball national championships held on the Gold Coast.

(8/10/03) After about 10 years, the team known as Skrokmeovs will now be called Hooters.

(3/10/03) Best of luck to Kendyl Knott, Stasia Eastham, Kristie Dick, Sam Gilles, Beck Shaw & Adam Jaeger (Asst. Coach) for the upcoming U/21 Netball Nationals that will be held at the Gold Coast, November 2003. Have a good time & play some good netball.

(2/10/03) Well done to the following sharks for representing South Australia in the recent Mini Nationals at Ballarat. Kevin Croke, Jason Carne, Kevin Lane, Adam Berry, Ken Gowling, Brian Sheedy, Todd Sheedy & Michael Leggard. SA won 4 of the 5 grades up for grabs, which is a sensational effort by anyones standards.

(25/9/03) RED THUMPERS WIN !!! The new wednesday comp involved 6 teams. Red Thumpers, Pink Berets, Brown Steamers, Blue Veins, Purple Helmets & White Chubbies. They were selected from nominations with a view to have an even comp, with superleague rules, to benefit the superleague season. Whilst the actual superleague cricket season yielded little success, the new wednesday comp was a success, with many players facing long time team mates for the first time. The Red Thumpers (3rd) defeated the Brown Steamers (top) in the first prelim, whilst the Pink Berets advanced from fifth to defeat the Blue Veins (4th) in the 2nd prelim. This led to the GF in which the Red Thumpers outplayed the Pink Berets in every facet of the game winning 110 to 62. Best for the thumpers were Richard "Dicko" Papps & Todd Sheedy, whilst Michael Ledgard & Michael Miller done well for the berets. (SCORSHEET6)

(23/8/03) STATS Sharks vs Modbury semi final A Grade Cricket & Sharks vs Modbury semi final D Grade Cricket unavailable.

(16/8/03) With the minor round over, the A Grade Cricket is well positioned to play in the Grand Final and hopefully win our first ever A Grade Cricket Premiership. Also special mention to the 3 juniors who made their A Grade Debuts this season, Brian Sheedy, Nick Bowen & Michael Ledgard. PLAN A STILL ON TRACK. Good Luck Fellas.

(16/8/03) THE SHARKS win the club championship for the umpteenth time. All 18 teams will contest finals. Some are going to struggle, but nevertheless it is a great achievement. GO THE SHARKS.

(9/8/03) Injuries take their toll. Nick Bowen (knee at nationals) Jason Holding (achilles during superleague netball). Both will be out of sport for 6 odd months unfortunately.

(6/6/03) Congratulations to Glen Tisdale for making the Over 30's All-Australian team selected from the recent National Tournament.

(21/5/03) FOSSILS TRIUMPH. The new wednesday night cricket format led to an early end to the season. Two prelims, the winners to play in the GF straight afterwards. The Skrokers beat the Chubbies in the first prelim. The other prelim was between The Gates and The Fossils. They put on ANOTHER CRACKER OF A GAME. Fossils bat first and hit 72. Gates openers struggle but the middle pairs hit back. With Baz bowling the last over The Gates hit the lead with 3 balls to go. Decision made for Galvo to block last 3. Leaves first outside off, then cops a little kicker that catches the glove and pops up for easy catch. 3 required off last ball for draw (win) but only single achieved. Fossils win, TOP GAME. Fossils win GF vs Skrokmeovs comfortably with solid batting performance. (SCORESHEET2)

(10/5/03) ROUND 2 SHARKS stats VS CAMDEN unavailable do to photocopier problem.

(12/4/03) ICC SHARKS TROPHIES. CRICKETER OF THE YEAR-David Sampson, BEST FIELDER-Matthew Tonkes, WICKET KEEPER OF THE YEAR-Chris Gilbert, A GRADE BATTING-Michael Todd, A GRADE BOWLING-David Draper, B GRADE BATTING-Kevin Lane, B GRADE BOWLING-Peter Cranstone, C GRADE BATTING-Peter Richards, C GRADE BOWLING-Gary Wybrew, D GRADE BATTING-Lee Dollman, D GRADE BOWLING-Dave Farrow. Congratulations to the above mentioned players.

(11/4/03) Congratulations to David Sampson & Matthew Verrall for making the Open Mens State Side for the upcoming Nationals. Good Luck. Also Brian Sheedy & Nick Bowen for making the U/18 State Side.

(30/3/03) The GF between the FOSSILS & the RUSTY GATES turned out to be a CRACKER. It came down to the last ball with Todd Sheedy needing a 2 to tie the game which would have seen the Fossils win. Matthew Tonkes was bowling & Darren Pope (leg 1) was good enough to keep the ball off the net & effect a run out. The game was played in great spirit & credit to Paul Sheedy for a solid umpiring display. Final Score (Gates 102 Fossils 95). This completed a hat-trick of wednesday night flags for the gates. They are entering a side in the $ 1,000 camden comp but will still field a "2nd Eight" at Morphett Vale. The word is they will still pop in to the Morphett Vale ICA Club Bar on the way home, so expect the gates antics to continue unabated. FOOTNOTE: Dez lost 50 clams on the result & was constantly reminded of this by the merry victor on the night. (SCORESHEET1)

(15/3/03) A BLACK DAY FOR THE CLUB!!! No grade will play finals this season (a first). No grade won their last game of the season. The A Grade (sect 1) lost outright with an opposition player capturing all 10 wickets in the first dig. In the second dig one of our bats was struck by a bouncer and was forced to retire with fractures to the eye socket. Another player who earlier in the day was singed lighting the B Grade BBQ later broke his ankle kicking the footy. Get well soon. Surely better things in store next season. Thanks to all who played for and/or supported the ICC Sharks throughout the season.

(1/3/03) Matthew Tonkes gets a five for (5/38 in sect 1).

(1/3/03) Darren Freaney performs solo effort (94 sect 5) to save Ds from outright loss (were 6/7).

(1/3/03) Dave Farrow gets a five for (5/42) sect 5.

(26/2/03) Gates lose after 23 wins in a row (98 vs 134 Fossils).

(19/2/03) Galvo zacks Dez 2nd last ball, Verrall blocks last ball, Gates win 23rd in a row (108 vs 107 Skrokmeovs).

(15/2/03) Jason Foran hits first 50 for club (86) sect 4.

(12/2/03) Rusty Gates win 22nd straight.

(5/2/03) Rusty Gates extend winning streak to 21 games.

(25/1/03) Mark Salter gets first ever 5 for (5 for 72) sect 4.

(18/1/03) Adam "Dingles" Berry hits first ever 50 (53*) sect 1.
