Operation Dragondrums
November 2oth, 2009 0158 Romulan standard hours
1st Imperator Argus Bestimus reviews the tactical display before him. Once
more he considers the intelligence reports the Dragons have given him on the
Romanians. But the scaly ally’s report was unsure of their exact missile
range of the Romanian space station. Looking over the photos of the base and
the Romanians themselves made him shudder. This race resembled nothing more
than spiny crustaceans, and the space station contained quite a bit of
water. Although the pics help him in his resolve to continue the action, it
does not reduce is fears of his ship. They have never been blooded. Their
crews, while professional, had never experienced combat. For the past 8
years he had been designing these ships, and now he will be the first to use
them in warfare. My, the Elements had a sense of irony.
At 0200 hours, Imperator Bestimus set upon watching the fleet action from
his station on the bridge. Unless the Romanians had somehow developed
Capitol Missiles, they would not be able to answer the fire from his 6 ships
that had Capitol Missiles to use on him. His two Caesar class command
battleships, two Fabius Mod 1 class battlecruisers and two Martiobarbulus
Mod 2 heavy cruisers opened fire at 5.5 light seconds from the space
station. It would be .5 light seconds beyond Standard Missile range, if they
have them. There was no return fire.
After 6.5 minutes of fire, the space station started streaming air. But the
Caesars also were empty. The last 4 continued the bombardment. 2.5 minutes
later the space station was no more. Phase 1 was completed. The 8 Drusus Mod
4s speed forth to see if their were any PDC’s. None were present. The
Dragons scout ships came forward to scan the planet then. And the rest of
AF1 and CF1 closed too. Now to await the transports with the RSA battalions.
November 25th, 2009 0900 hours
The freighters with the RSA arrive. 400 battalions of planetary assault
forces and 200 battalions of security troops arrive. Imperator sends the 400
assault troops down to take the capitol, the most heavily defended region on
the planet. Somewhere around 1200 battalions of troops was defending the
planet. But only 200 were defending the capitol. So 400 hundred Romulan units
went to take it. And Imperator Bestimus watched it all from his seat on the
Bridge of the Alexander.
The freighters dropped into the atmosphere and belched forth their troops.
The response was quick but lacking in strength. The 199 Romanian troops were
outmatched and outnumbered. They were slaughtered in half an hour. 47 RSA
battalions paid for that victory. The dragon scouts reported that the
Romanian forces were on the move. The RSA made use of that time to dig in and
setup. 72 hours later the Romanians attacked again using a flanking maneuver
to catch the RSA in it’s pincers. The RSA General considered them incapable
of matching the RSA firepower and allowed the pincers to close. 399 Romanian
battalions learned how powerful the RSA is. And 78 RSA battalions paid the
price of learning that pincers still could cost lives. But it only took the
RSA half an hour to defeat the Romanians again.
Time clicked on and another 72 hours passed by. This time, the Romanian
military had someone with a devious twist. He chooses to engage in a more
guerilla style combats. An hour was spent routing him out. But in the end
the RSA routes him out and destroys his forces. 399 Romanians battalions
took 147 RSA battalions with them. Now the remainder of the Romanian forces
out number the RSA battalions.
The forces of the Romanians attack 72 hour later. 199 Romanian battalions
using a combination of set piece and guerilla tactics whittle away at the
RSA battalions. It takes 1.5 hours to resolve the battle. In the end the 199
Romanian battalions knew defeat. And 89 RSA battalions would find their
place with the elements.
But Romania is taken with 39 assault battalions and 200 security troops
riding herd over the populace. And Imperator Bestimus looks down at the blue
world and shakes his head. He wonders if it was worth the lives to take it.
But the alternative was no better. And so he watched. And learns.
