Him History

HIM are from Finnland,Helsinki. Their front man Ville Valo, in english William Light, formed his band "HisInfernalMajesty" 1996. He already dedicated itself completely to the music, when he was 8 years old.
"As I was eight years old, I saw Gene Simmons of Kiss on the television. For me it was immediately clear: so I also want to be. He was the coolest human, I've ever seen, so first I needed a bass-guitar. I got on my parents nerves week by week till they bought me a used guitar and equipment. Of course the thing was much more largely than I, but I was happy. Since then each day there was music in my life. I never thought about another career than to be a rockstar." So Ville, who was born in Helsinki on November the 22th in 1976.

Before he formed the band, he worked at the sexshop of his dad. "It's not something special for me, because I've grown up with that. Only my schoolfriends sometimes had problems with that: They ever wanted to visit me but their parents forbade that to them.quot; Many people don't know, that Ville suffers at asthma fits, why he couldn't go to the army.

Then there came a time, where Ville doesn't want only to have illusions, he wants to make music, which has power and is nevertheless romantic, music which leaves a symbol, that brings tears in the eyes. Some songs have been written, an agreement with BMG Finland was signed and a short time later our debut album "Greatest Lovesongs vol.666" took place in the record shops. Since that moment it seems there was no way back for Ville and his crew. Fortunately the album also was sold well in Germany and HIM were celebrated as the newcomers of the year 1998. The absolute break-through they succeeded now with their single "join me" a song in the movie of Roland Emmerichs "THE 13th FLOOR". At the beginning of January 2000 the song jumped to the first place of the German Charts and TV stations especially for teenagers such as MTV and VIVA played it all time.
HIM appeared in shows like "Top of the Pops" and were celebrated as new stars of the rock. Although Ville always dreamed to become famous, the success came surprisingly. Ville:
"It was a funny situation, when we get number one with the song "join me", Migé an I were in a bar in Helsinki and we had to lend cash from our friends, to celebrate the success."

The Germany tour that started in March 2000, is for Ville and the band members a large challenge and especially a large step forward, thus that the halls are larger now. At the beginning of their career HIM however provided for confusion, one insulted them as satanists because of their dark outfit, the main topic of death and love, and before all because of their coquetery with the magic sequence of numbers 666 which is a symbol of the proximity of love and death, so Ville explains. It does not mean a miracle that one placed HIM fast into the corner of occultism, but Ville said: Ville meint: "It's all imbecility. For me this symbols have another meaning than for 'normal' people. The word death does not mean a dying for me, but release from this wicked world. It's not the question whether to cut itself open the pulse veins, but the question whether you could die for the love. Is love real the most important thing, for which you would sacrifice everything?" Because one hears mainly about Ville, he gives the interviews and hurries to photo shoots, first one thought HIM would be a solo project, but HIM is a band and he is the front man. All songs were sang and written by himself. "I regard Ville as a very good songwriter. He shaped our concept and our music during such a long period that I don't have to measure with him. So far I've not written a song that would be equal with the songs of him." so Migé said.

Migé Amour (civil name Mikko Paananen) und Mikko Lindström alias Lily Lazer are already friends of Ville for over 10 years, and that's very important for him. Juska Salminen alias Zoltan Pluto und Mika Karppinen alias Gas Lipstick are new members of the band, since the two ex band members had no more time for important rehearses because of their families. Ville respents that, because both belonged to the HIM family. Now "Razorblade Romance" has appeared on the german market and further provides for success. The new songs are crucially more melodious and have got more rock than the songs of "THE GREATEST LOVESONGS VOL.666" Metal never had much influence on the band, because HIM like to be reputed as a rockband.
