Certified Nurse Midwife
This person is a registered nurse who has completed additional in depth training in providing obstetrical and well woma care.  She/He cares for the uncomplicated pregnancy and works with an obstetrician.  A CNM generally provides a more natural type of care, although many are not opposed to needed medical interventions, including pain medication for delivery if preferred by the expectant woman. The CNM most often cares for your baby immediately after birth as well.



OB/GYN

This is a medical docot who has completed an additional in depth residency specializing in the care of the pregnant woman.  There are different levels of specialty, some specialize in infertility or the hig-risk pregnancy. You will need a doctor to care for your baby after his/her birth.



Family Practitioner

This is your family doctor that also provides prenatal care and most will also deliver your baby.  Your family practice doctor can also care for your baby after birth.
