Signs and Symptoms
of
Pregnancy
Missed Period  - This is the most common sign of pregnancy.  Although some women still have light periods even after conception has occured.  Most over-the-counter pregnancy test can be used as soon as the first day after a missed period.

Implantation Spotting - a scant amount of blood or brown spotting that can occur as a result of implantation of the fertilized egg into the uterine lining.

Breast Tenderness - As the breast begin to enlarg and react to the increase in pregnancy hormones, tenderness can occur.  The breast can become tender, sensitive and feel fuller and heavier.  You may notice enlargement of the veins that run beneath the surface of the breast.  The areolas (the brown or reddish skin around the nipple) may begin to enlarge and darken.

Extreme Tiredness - The increase in hormones and extra work of supporting a pregnancy can lead to extreme tiredness.  You may begin to feel tired much earlier in the day.

Nausea - Again, the increase in hormones is thought to be the culprit.  While this is often referred to as morning sickness, be prepared for it to occur at all times of the day.  Not all women experience nausea and some may not experience nause until later in the pregnancy.

Bloated sensation - That feeling of bloating or water retention that sometimes occurs before menstration.  However, thsi bloating last more than a few days.

Frequent Urination - Related to increase in hormones (those darn hormones) and increase in the size of the uterus putting pressure on the bladder.  Yes, the uterus begins to enlarge within 24 hours of conception.

Increase Temperature - If you have been tracking your basal body temperature you may notice this sign.  If your basal body temperature stays elevated for 18 days or more, it is said to be a positive sign of conception
