Southside
Johnny & the Asbury Jukes
Date: October
25th, 2003
Venue: Hyde Park, Osnabrück, Germany
On 2.15 pm
I arrived at "jpc" (a recordstore) where Southside
Johnny and Bobby Bandiera had an autograph session. First I got an autograph of Bobby. Of course he had problems with writing my name... But he could pronounce it (wonder ;-) )!! Normally, you as a fan ask if you and the artist can take a photo together... But Bobby asked me if we should take photo
together (of course I said yes). He's so nice and really funny (and an
amazing guitarist)!! Anyway, then I went to Southside, let him sign my both CDs, and we also took a photo
together.
Then
we drove to the "Hyde
Park". Aprox. 15 minutes before entrance I said goodbye to my father (he didn't want to go to this concert... he really missed something!!) and went to the crowd. Then we finally could go into the club. I still could choose where I wanted to stand (at the side where the bassist and pianist were, or at the side of Bobby). Of course I chose the side where Bobby was.
So I was standing in the 1st row... It was really comfortable there. No barrier (you were really "lying" on the stage!), no one pushed and I could put my jacket and rucksack under the stage, so nothing disturbed
me.
Anyway, finally the concert started. One of the first songs was "Unchain My Heart" - was a better version than the one Joe Cocker
did!
Some time later Southside asked his bandmembers if they knew a German rockband. The pianist wondered if the "Scorpions" are a German band (yes, they are!). He started a song at the piano, but that didn't sound like the Scorpions. Then a woman out of the
crowd shouted "99 Red Balloons" and Bobby started to sing the song. Was really cool. But Southside stopped it...
Then they went on with the "normal" show... I don't remember at which song that happened, what I
never expected and what I'll never forget. Southside said to Bobby that he wanted to play the guitar now. And then they talked something, I didn't understand (the words weren't the problem, but I was a little bit confused...). Then Bobby said "this young girl" and pointed with his finger at me. Then Southside asked "that?". At that moment I really understood nothing anymore... The woman next to me understood what they wanted (meanwhile I was more than just confused...). They wanted me to come onstage! Of course I did. And while Southside played the guitar I was dancing with Bobby. Yes! That's really
true!!
Then the rest of the concert passed so fast. Some of the last songs were "The Fever", "Trapped Again", "I Don't Want to Go Home", the very last was "Hearts of Stone" - an
amazing version!! Then the concert was already (they played 2,5 hours...) over. Then the next highlight: I got the original setlist that Southside wrote for that show (although most of the concert wasn't like the setlist
says...)!
That was all I can remember at the moment. I'll never forget this concert - especially Bobby!!
