TITLE: Scenes From a Cop Bar (Cordyverse) 1/1
AUTHOR: Don Bentley
E-MAIL: dbentley@albedo.net
SUMMARY: Some conversations overheard in a cop bar.
RATING: PG13
TIMELINE: 12-15 years in the future.
DISTRIBUTION: Just ask first.
SPOILERS: Ice cream before supper.
DISCLAIMER: The characters and situations of "Buffy: The Vampire Slayer" are the property of Joss Whedon, et al.  This is non-profit fun.

NOTE: My 'Cordyverse' stories to date are, Exodus 20:12, Cordelia Chase: Working Mom, Crime Scene Investigations, and Soccer Mom.  This one requires a familiarity with the earlier stories, the situation, and a couple of the new characters.  I should probably mention that Kerry, Winter, and anyone else not specifically identifiable as canon, are my own characters.

Blame Peter and his "Movie Night" but this is how it came out of my head.  I think it works, but.....  I await your judgement.

Scenes From a Cop Bar

Don Bentley

"How they doin'?"

"In the same room together longer 'an ten minutes and we 'aven't 'ad to call the cops.  What do you think?"

"That you guys are the cops."

"That's the only reason this bar stays open."

"No, your money, and that of the rest of the squad, and of every woman who wanders down from campus, that's what keeps this bar open."

"What you get for keeping the name."

"I like the name."

"You like the pickings."

"That too.  Hey, Kerry."

"Hey Faith.  What are you two arguing about?"

"Does it matter?"

"Not really, but he's my partner, and I have to deal with the sulking when he looses."

"I don't-"

"Corona and-"

"No Export.  Not 'til tomorrow."

"Don't know why you bothered.  'E won't want it.  Down 'ere it tastes like watered down sheep's-"

"Remind me not to ask about that particular life lesson."

"Your loss."

"Two Corona's, please, Faith."

"Any luck with 'Dudley' yet?"

"Stop calling him that!"

"Just asking."

"Why?  Jealous?"

"To the depths of me soul, luv.  Depths of my soul."

"Knew it.  Thanks, Faith.  Wish me luck."

"Don't you dare."

"He told her that he was thinking of moving down here and taking that position in the squad Cordy offered him."

"Over my dead body!....  Shut up!"

*****

"All moved in?"

"Yeah."

"How's AJ settling in at school?"

"Fine."

"Charlie and her are in the same math class."

"She told me."

"Okay."

*****

"This is nice.  We haven't had a date since-"

"Forever?"

"Seems like.  Neck still stiff?"

"Damn airline seats.  Ohhhhhhh yessss!  You have exactly two hours to stop doing that."

"Vixen."

"Nymph."

*****

"Hi, I'm Faith.  Haven't seen you in here before."

"N-no.  My first time."

"Don't worry, we don't bite.  What can I get you?"

"Ahhh... beer?"

"That only works on TV.  You have a favourite brand?"

"Oh, uh, what's he drinking?"

"You don't want that.  Here, you'll like this one, but, first, I need to see some ID."

"Oh, okay.  Here."

"Nineteen.  Right on the money.  Happy Birthday, Winter Jean."

"People call me Winnie."

"What do your friends call you?"

"I don't- I m-mean...."

"Well, I like 'Winter'.  Suits your eyes."

"T-thank you."

*****

"What?  Hey, don't stop!-mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmOHHHHHMYGODDESS! Tara!  Been saving it up long?"

"You've been away awhile."

*****

"William said he stopped by the office to see you today."

"Yeah."

"Said you were all settled in."

"I am."

"Good.  Good."

*****

"Uhh, Faith?"

"Winter?"

"Is this a....  I mean, I heard some people on campus talking and I thought...  Never mind.  S-sorry."

*****

"Watcha thinking about?"

"The past."

"When dinosaurs ruled the world past, or when we were-mmmmmmmmmmm.  Oh."

"Remember our first night... together?"

"No."

"No?!"

"Baby, I was scared.  Scared and, and shy, and... a little horny.  Oh, and scared.  Really scared that you wouldn't want to see me 'cause I had stood you up earlier, and that I didn't deserve a second chance, not with you.  But mostly....  Tara, mostly I remember every single kiss and touch and every breath I took and every beat of your heart.  Why?"

"We've got the house to ourselves.  All weekend."

"But-"

"No buts.  For the rest of the night we are on our first date."

"And when we get home?"

"Our first night together.  Grandmama's crystal is lying on the bed.  Waiting for us."

"Have I told you I'm in love with you lately?"

"Not since desert."

"Poor baby, so neglected."

"Shhhh."

"Hey.  We didn't kiss on our first date."

"Shhhh."

*****

"Did the cable guy come on time?  'Cause they-"

"She did."

"Good.  'Cause they....  Good."

*****

"Wow.  Frobisher Bay, Port Asbestos, they all sound so... interesting.
Do the Mounties ever let you guys live in a big city?"

*****

"So they come in for some easy money, right, thinking that it can't be all that hard to knock off a lesbian bar, right?"

"Right."

"Right.  So, the brains of the outfit walks up to me, 'bout where you are now, pulls his nine and, I swear to God, it's on the security tape, says, 'Stick 'em up.'"

"No!"

"Yes.  Within three seconds both bush babies are looking down every manner of back up piece imaginable.  The squad was having a retirement party."

"Wow.  That's so groovy."

*****

"Coming to the game tomorrow?"

"Yeah."

"Good.  Charlie says that AJ's real good."

"She likes it."

"Good.  'Cause it's good for-
