Life.doc is just a text file - ".doc" used to be used for
explanatory text document files before the popularity of MS-Word
began. You can rename it, because the program (Life3.exe) doesn't
use it; it's just an explanatory introductory file. I've now
renamed it to "Life intoduction document.txt"

".LIF" files are non-text files that contain defined "Life"
patterns that you can read into the program board via its file
i/o. You can modify and create your own and write them out, too.
The program will use the minimum square within which living cells
exist in which to save your pattern as a .lif file, so make sure
there's no living cells anywhere other than those you want to
save.

Don't type the ".lif" when reading and saving the files in file
i/o in the program - it's understood.

This program is an amateur effort. You'll have to press "Esc"
when it tells you to after it displays the help screen, which it
does when you launch it, and when you press "Esc" from the
program. To exit, you have to be in the program proper, not in
the help screen or file i/o, and press F3. It gives all this info
in the help screen, but in a less user-friendly way.
