CLevenshulme has always had a large population throughout the last Centrury,and has always been a pleasant place to live,with plenty of shops,pubs and other local amenities for people to use. However during the last decade Levenshulme has seen a decline in living standards,with hardly any money being invested in an area where a lot of people live. In my opinion the problems started when houseing associations started buying private dwellings.This in turn has had problem familys moving into houseing that is let to them by the houseing associations ,which in turn are getting their money from the DSS.! You only need to look in The Manchester Evening News ,under houseing,and you will see the amount of propertys (that were once private) that are now owned by the houseing association that are for rent. ylick here to add your text. |

ClThis problem has been around now for quite some time,and this in turn sees businesses leaving the area,shops getting vandalized and an increase in crime. iLevenshulme has been under Liberal Demacrat control now since 1979,and giving them credit,they do listen to problems that are afoot in the area.They produce a local news sheet called Focus,which keeps you informed with what is happening in the communitty,but we need to look at the issues that are affecting the people of Levenshulme. The area is desperate for investment-many of the houseing stock is over 100 years old now,with row after row of terraced houseing,and back entrys that look like something from a third world country!. Millions of pounds have been,and still is being invested into Hulme making it a desirable place to live.Indeed people from the community were asked how they wanted their Hulme to look like-lets see something like that happening in Levenshulme! C was set up by the Manchester City Council.It was given £9 million pound from the Labour goverment for investment in the inner city areas,which were Ardwick,Longsight and Levenshulme. Fifty four projects have been set up ,with added investment from public funds and the private sector . One can only hope that this money is invested wisely- and pump some of that money into local houseing and busineses in the area. |
CI sincerely hope that Levenshulme is regenerated into an area that is a nice place to live once again-but that depends upon the people who live there,and the amount of investment the A6 partnership is willing to give.This in turn will see people returning to a rejuvenated area,and local businesses opening shop once again.ck here to add your text. |
