The top picture which was taken in 1905 shows the Council offices when Levenshulme collected its own rates ,looked after its own roads,changed its own street lighting and collected its own refuge. Levenshulme was absorbed into Manchester in 1909 so it lost all responsibility for these services. The town hall which was bulit in 1898 looks very much the same today -over 100 years later-even the fenceing at the front of the building remains the same!
