CLOUISE Hi Phil ,hope you dont mind me dropping you a line, but i just had to let you know how much i enjoyed visiting your website. I was born in 1970 and lived in Levenshulme until 1988 when i moved just down the road. There is a real sence of community spirit in Levenshulme ,which i see as my parents still live there .And i also work there. The photos on your site were great, not much has changed -you can easily recognize the places on them. I remember well the year 1977 -it was the year of the queens silver jubilee. We stood at school on the playing field waiting for a glimpse of her Majesty, waving our union jacks. We stood there for ages ,only to be told later that she had ben delayed,so we never saw her! We were given a badge at school as a memento which i still have today. I remember my street had a street party -they were very big in those days!Pity really that it has died off -they were good fun! Do you remember the market that was held at weekends next to where the Palace Nightclub is now? I remember going there as achild-it was a very small market if i remember correctly. We spent many a summer day up on the Highfield playing fields or messing about with friends on the "Brickie"the old brickworks where the "Sidings" pub is now situated. Good look with your website Louise.
GEORGE NIXON Hi Phil , I have just discovered your site ,and want to offer you my congratulations on a very interesting site. The Palace cinema was one of five cinemas that ooperated in Levenshulme when i was a child in the 50s.It was also known as "the farmside",because it was situated in Farmside place.Unofficially it was also known as "the bug hut".perated |
