A short
drivers before leaving the good-road. Note the
vegetable gardens in the rear. |
|
At the start of the
off-road sector of the journey, do like mountain man and
release your air pressure to suit the track. Beware tubeless
tyres may pop if they are deflated too much. |

Brother Barathan
enjoyed Gary's airconditioned powerseered, automatic gearboxed
& power windowed, Disco. Oh what comfort... |
|
And then a fly
landed on Rama's shoulder. He whipped out his air compressor,
attached his turbo charged ram air power wrench and shot the
problem to bits... |
 |
|
 |
Then obstacle after
obstacle were encountered. Where even the Defender had some
trouble? Big tyres, high ground clearance, surely it can go
through. But not for
all. |
|
I had made the wrong
(on hindsight of course) decision to take the kiasu firm but
narrow route on the left rather than follow the car in
front right through the thick mud in the middle. I tried
the easy way out but ended up like Hakim where my right wheel
slipped into the muddy rut below. Note: all vehicles should
try to own at least a snatch strap and even a winch. |

The convoy stopped
in a couple of Asli villages and handed out LROM tee-shirts
and sweets, tobacco, cigarettes etc to the folk |
|
Some
members even brought and handed out bags of used clothing
that was much welcomed by the Asli folk. |
 |
|
 |
When we finally
reached our destination, we found that it had
industriously been recently converted into a hill-paddy field
by the Asli folk there. Alas we we had to use the narrow river
bank as our rather cramped campsite |
|
A briefing the next
morning held on the bridge over a noisy but relatively dying
stream, as the Asli gentleman I asked said " where
silvery fish once jumped and skipped in glee and were as
big as my arm" . |
 |
|
 |
Nick then opened his
boxes and voila, the "LROM Shoppe in the Woods"
opened for business. He introduced the new khaki LROM caps and
sold T-shirts, badges, flags, and stickers and all other LROM
collectibles |
|
Packing for that
journey home we see our club adviser Yamin Vong storing his
aluminium camping kit atop the roof rack of his Range Rover
which is also made mainly of aluminium. Good match... |

And seen here
from behind, the disco continues to lead-on up these steep
slopes bringing us back home to safety and comfort. |
