After Bagga Bagga, our next stop is the Deboyne group of islands to the south. We stop at these uninhabited islands for 3 days while we start planning for the return trip to Cairns – it's hard to believe our 6 weeks is nearly up. The snorkeling here is good and I try to take advantage of the warm clear water as much as possible knowing that we won’t be here much longer. We do a scuba dive out here and there's plenty to see - barracuda, trevally, an giant eagle ray glides past, turtles and a small shark, there are also plenty of coral trout and chinese footballer fish and a some small mackerel for spearfishing.
The island is small and easy to walk round at low tide (of course I try it at high tide and get stuck in the coral, luckily there's no-one to see me making an arse of myself trying to wade backwards towards the shore in a pair of fins). There are some huts and gardens on the island, and the remains of a smoking fire, someone’s obviously been here recently - probably local fishermen using it as an overnight stop. I sit on the beach in the late afternoon, I have the whole island to myself, and watch the sun go down over the sea....
