Myst Library

realMystYou hear wind chimes, breezes blowing, music, birds, rain and other sounds. Quiet earthy music draws you into Myst, deserting you on Myst Island. Solve the puzzles—journals, notes and shreds of information that you must put together in order to figure out what is going on and what has happened on the island of Myst. You arrive knowing nothing. Explore the journals and ages. Slowly more information is uncovered, and in the end, you must decide who is telling you "the truth".....and who is not.

Watch a bird fly far overhead, or watch the sunset and the stars come out. Stop by Cyan's realMYST site, which uses interactive Flash to give you all the details of the game.

Heard of easter eggs? They're secret movies, jokes and pictures to be found by gamers. intended as a joke while you're there, make sure you catch all the Myst Easter Eggs.
"Flymode" Aloys, the webmaster for Aloys' Island discovered a way to see more of realMyst in the demo and in the actual game. By manipulating one of the files on your computer, walk off the planks in the Stoneship Age, and actually walk around on the water. Or, view things from close to the ground or way high up. You can get some great screen shots of the Ages (see my gallery for my shots). Visit her web site for a detailed overview of how to try "fly mode". Visit Marck's site and get step-by-step directions. I have tried this, and it is so much fun! You can see things you would never see before.

How it all came to be
In the Riven Solutions book, a little section is hidden in the back of the book, giving details to the background of Myst and prepares you for Riven. Excellent details about Myst and Riven. Why is Gehn so cruel? How did the Moiety get started? What happened in D'ni? Thought you knew everything about what had happened?

Whark island on Riven. The long-awaited and much anticipated sequel to Myst. Just as beautiful as Myst, but superbly different, unique wildlife and cultures are introduced, and you get to visit new ages. You again get to help Atrus, fix the wrongs in his world. The Myst fans truly loved this game, which started a large ring of Myst fans on the web. For years, there was a huge expanse of fan sites for Riven.

This time the task is to rescue Atrus’ wife Catherine from the clutches of his own father, who he trapped on Riven decades before. You travel through the beautiful but dangerous Age of Riven, an Age written by Gehn himself, and unlock clues to where he may be hiding Catherine. The Age of Riven is a look into the mind of Gehn.

My favorite Riven site is Riven Illuminated. This site has THE most extensive information on anything you ever wanted to know about Riven. Details about each island, lots of screenshots, miscellaneous extras, easter eggs and more. Bookmark this one.

Exile screenshotFollowing Riven in our sequence. Catherine and Atrus had two sons, Sirrus and Achenar. As they grew up, Atrus sought to teach them about The Art, the D'ni skill of writing Linking Books to new worlds.

To teach them the elements that make up an Age, Atrus wrote the lesson Age of J'nanin, where the boys would come for their lessons. Three other Ages, Amateria, Edanna and Voltaic, were available to them to learn these elements. Atrus introduced his two sons to a man called Saavedro, who was to teach them the ways of his civilization.

The sons betrayed and manipulated the inhabitants of Narayan in order to get what they wanted, Saavedro saw what they were doing and sought to speak out against them. Civil war broke out upon the Age and the two sons fled the Age, no longer finding any value in it.

Believing is family and homeworld to be dead and suffering from decades of solitude, madness began to claim Saavedro...

Amateria would have to be my favorite. The distant rumble of thunder, the oriental architecture, and turning around to the sunset with approaching clouds. The glass spheres were real fun.

Web Sites
Presto Studios is the creator of Myst III EXILE. Myst 3.com is the main home site for Myst III. The Myst music adds the finishing touch to the Exile ages. Something new with this game: the bad guy will appear suddenly! Despite the years between games, the story continues smoothly—and even someone who never played the previous games can easily pick right up on the story.
