Title image:Sri Ramana Maharishi
Can there be space, can there be time, except for me ?
Space and time bind me, only if I am the body,
I am nowhere, I am timeless
I exist everywhere and always

Sri Ramana Maharishi is truly the timeless one in time. The above poem is taken from his 'Sat Darshanam' explaining the nature of Reality and is the most appropriate one to describe Sri Ramana Maharishi.

Venkataraman was born into a brahmin family in a small town near Madurai (In the southern part of India) on 30th December 1879. He came to Madurai for his studies. And while there, when he was in his tenth standard, he had his first death experience. He had a sudden and overwhelming fear of death. But unlike other young boys he did not run to his friends or teacher. He calmly imagined every step until the body was burnt and suddenly realised that he was the "deathless spirit, untouched by death"

After this , he gave up his normal life and started for Thiruvannamalai. At the age of seventeen, he reached Thiruvannamalai and became totally absorbed in God. While being there, he had his second death experience. But unlike the first experience this one was real. As he went through the experience, all sign of life in his body stopped. People who were with him started weeping thinking that Sri Ramana Maharishi was dead. But Sri Ramana was fully conscious and saw everything that was happening. As he was observing what was happening, a sudden energy permeated his body and the body started functioning again.

After this the Bhagwan started teaching his philosophy to those who came to him. Known for his extreme simplicity and childlike joy in life, Sri Ramana Maharishi could heal with a mere glance. Many were the tormented souls that ran to him in despair. Self taught and self-realised Sri Ramana Maharishi's teachings can be found in his Sat Dashanam and Ramana Gita.

Sri Ramana Maharishi left for his heavenly abode on 14 th April 1950.
