Downgrade to comctrl 4
Hi folks,
one of these days sombody spoke of "Degrading" his Comp to
486 level after upgrading his commoncontrol dll
I did the same with the 50comupdt from M$ two days ago (on
Win95b).
Nothing changed until today, when i realize that my
Explorer, if pointing to a directory with some 1000 entries
needs more than 20 secs to show them.
Trying to downgrade using the 40comupd from the 2.5 CD
won't work, saying "This comp need's no upgrade " :-(
So, has anybody an idea how to downgrade, (better than:
reinstall windows...) i'd be very happy

Those files are self extracting (zip) archives, all you need
to to is extract them to a directory and replace the
relevant DLLs wherever they reside on your system.

Karl,
Is there a specific reason to downgrade? I had some
problems with ListView, which Marijo took a look at. Her
response was:
MD>My guess is that it's a ComCtl32.DLL problem. I had some
strange common control problems a couple weeks ago when I
was still on 4.72.??? and verified it was the ComCtl32.DLL
at fault. You can download 50comupd.exe from Microsoft's
website to upgrade to the 5.0 version.<

David.

The specific problem is speed. On slower computers it slows
down shell operations radically.

David,
i find, that since the upgrade almost anything is normal,
but - Winword 7 has a prob with SaveAs now; i.e., it needs
up to 2 min. to fill the listview in the SaveasDlg. I admit
having more or less 1,000 files ;-) in the defaultdirectory,
but nevertheless, a week ago it wasn't more than 2 or 3
seconds. Interestingly, the OpenFile doesn't show that weird
behaviour. And, i'm rather shure that i don't have a
macrovirus onboard...Thx
Karl
