The Tigers have notched up their first win of the 2002 season with an upset win over the Bulldogs at the Sydney Showground.
Playing with pride and passion the Tigers were much more enthusiastic that their opponents, with the Tigers forwards dominating the Bulldogs pack. Some innovative work from hard man Corey Pearson with his neat short passes caused havoc with the oppositions defence.
Ben Jeffries played well as he took the line on more and made some very good clean breaks. Darren Senter, the inspirational leader who was up all night with a stomach bug, was man of the match in my opinion with his courage and scoring 2 tries for us was a plus! Terry Hill also impressed me as he played like he was 5 years younger and was very solid in defence. Also Hassan Saleh played a very good game, scoring a try right under Bulldogs fullback Luke Patten's nose.
The Tigers lead the Bulldogs 14 - 6 at halftime and were revved up for a solid second half performance. After the Bulldogs scored an early try in the second half, the Tigers bounced back with 2 tries to make the scoreline read 24 - 12 with 20mins to go.
However, the Tigers made it hard for themselves after blundering the kickoff of the last quarter, then conceding 2 soft Bulldogs tries to make the scoreline read 24 - 22 with 8 mins of play remaining. However, the Tigers scored a good try by Hassan Saleh near the end of the match to make it 28 - 22. The Bulldogs has one last chance with 10secs left on the clock when Tigers prop Corey Pearson kicked for touch, yet the ball was somehow miraculously picked up by the Bulldogs winger which gave them possession. However a bomb which was put up was defused by the Tigers and they celebrated victory.
