| Superstitions In the institution of the Masquerade, the Camarilla has shielded itself from not only the natural world of the mortals, but also the world of the supernatural. The Sabbat endorse the basic fact that the Camarilla seeks to hide: that vampires are first and foremost, supernatural creatures. Because of this they are sometimes quite superstitious. After all, they know the supernatural exists. Normal superstitions which bother mortals such as black cats and walking under stairs donšt bother Sabbat as much. They live in a supernatural world and have superstitions which match that world. Omens, when perceived, are usually taken into account and not often ignored outright. The omens that the Sabbat look for are those dealing with the supernatural world. When either something acts unnatural or nature acts in reverse then the Sabbat take notice. Such as cats chasing dogs, mice killing cats, or a butterfly building a cocoon and emerging as a caterpillar. Such things happen in the world but are only observed and believed by those who are in touch with the supernatural. Typically, changes in situations of other parts of the world are omens also. Word of a war party being successful in another part of the world would bode good will for other Sabbat packs in their endeavors even though it has nothing to do with them. The downfall of kings and governments is viewed as a good omen by Sabbat as is the death of religious leaders while the death of freedom fighters and political activists are viewed as bad omens. Dreams are always taken into account and even actively sought out by some Sabbat as omens or keys to their current dilemmas. Divination also plays a part in Sabbat life. More than one war party has been called or called off due to the turn of tarot cards or the fall of I-ching coins. While they donšt believe that all such experiments merit complete trust or that they even work, the Sabbat are very aware of premonitions and gut feelings towards such things, especially from those with Auspex. A Sabbat pack is much more likely to pay attention to a members gut feelings about something than is a Camarilla coterie. They have seen enough in the world to know that coincedents arenšt always what they seem, nor are they always caused by mages. Reality, as logical and mechanical as it seems, still has a since of the absurd and wondrous in it for those who look. It often throws things out for people to see or manipulates events to guide people along their way as it inconceivably sees fit. |
