More disabled people will be denied
jobs as the country is braced for higher unemployment, Social Development
and Human Security Minister Udomdej Rattanasathien said.
The minister said the sagging economy would have a detrimental impact
on the chances for disabled job-seekers in a market where people
without disabilities are being laid off.
The National Statistical Office said last year 3% of the population
- about two million people - were disabled. There were 1.2 million
disabled people over the age of 15, but only half could find jobs.
The ministry is promoting a campaign for people to respect the disabled
in the workforce with the Council of Disabled People of Thailand.
Council chairman Wiriya Namsiripongpan also called for the public
to end bias on the disabled.
