He appeared in fierce glory as Almighty God,
His compassion and mercy we scarce understood.
In smoke and thick darkness, his form was not shown,
Lest his image be defiled in wood or in stone.
In the fat of our rams, he took no delight,
The blood of our bulls, abhorred in his sight.
This I desire, came the cry from above,
A sacrifice of praise on an altar of love.
Our fear of the Lord should be reverence not terror,
From his throne came the Message which amended our error.
With speech and with ink, in flesh and in blood
The Truth made him known: Jehovah the Good.
His mercies unending and each morn renewed,
With sweet lovingkindness all his works he endued.
His love for his children in Jesus he shows;
With his grace and his favor, our cup overflows.
