Faithfulness

Help, Lord, for the godly man ceases to be, for the faithful disappear from among the sons of men.
Psalm 12:1

Faithful: steadfast in affection or allegiance; marked by fidelity to an original; consistently reliable or dependable

Notes:

In Revelation 1:5, Jesus Christ is called "the faithful witness". Jesus was (and is) completely faithful to the Father. Jesus said that he himself had "many things to speak and judge", but that "He who sent me is true, and I speak to the world the words which I have heard from him" (John 8:26).

Jesus, who knew himself, his own words and his own judgments to be true, refused to speak anything on his own initiative in favor of speaking only the words he heard the Father speak, and in the same way, performing only the works he saw the Father do.

He was completely faithful to his Father in all of his earthly ministry, and we know from the second chapter of Hebrews that, even now, he is faithful in his heavenly ministry as high priest on our behalf before God.

God called Abraham out from the comfort of family and familiar surroundings into an unknown place in which God promised to bless him. Abraham believed that he who had called him was able to care for him anywhere and under all circumstances.

Because of his faith in God, he left the security of being surrounded, comforted and helped by his family to rely on God to meet those needs. He left the reassuring environment of his "hometown" for the unfamiliar and unknown territory into which God called him. He believed God had called him for a purpose and that God was able to achieve that purpose in any circumstance or territory, thus he obeyed the voice of God, and his faith was reckoned to him as righteousness.

The Bible tells us the end result of Abraham's obedience: "Now Abraham was old, advanced in age; and the Lord had blessed Abraham in every way" and, "Abraham died in a ripe old age, an old man and satisfied with life." Abraham's servant testified, "And the Lord has greatly blessed my master, so that he has become rich."

In the eighth chapter of Mark, Jesus said that whoever would lose (forsake, give up, sacrifice) his life for the sake of Jesus and the Gospel, would actually find his life. He promised in the tenth chapter that whoever gave up any material possessions for this reason would receive a hundred times as much "NOW IN THE PRESENT AGE" and eternal life in the coming age.

Notice that with the material blessings of this present age, there will also be persecutions; but not to worry, because he covered that as well. In John 16:33, Jesus told us that, "In the world you will have tribulation, but FEAR NOT (be of good cheer!), for I have overcome the world."

The Bible says that Moses "was faithful in all his house as a servant, for a testimony of those things which were to be spoken later". Because of Moses' faithfulness to God, we are told that the Lord spoke to Moses "face to face, as a man speaks to his friend."

In Genesis 33, the Lord revealed his goodness directly to Moses-he made his goodness pass before him! Notice what God says to Moses, "Behold, there is a place by me, and you shall stand there on the rock; and it will come about while my glory is passing by, that I will put you in the cleft of the rock and cover you with my hand until I have passed by." God showed Moses a place by God, right next to God himself! He said that Moses would stand, not grovel or bury his face in the dirt, but that he would STAND ON THE ROCK. As God passed by, he hid Moses in the cleft of the rock and covered him with his hand.

Jesus is the rock on which Moses stood and in which he was hidden; Jesus is also the right hand of God, with which he hid (shielded and protected) Moses. We stand on that same rock today. Jesus purchased righteousness (right standing) for us, hence we have bold and confident access to the Father.
