Prosperity

He who trusts in the Lord will prosper.
Proverbs 28:25

The thief comes only to steal, and kill, and destroy; I came that they might have life, and might have it abundantly.
John 10:10

Theorem: It is God's will that his children prosper.

Proof: And let them say continually, "Let the Lord be magnified, who delights in the prosperity of his servant." Psalms 35:27

Incredible? Not to those who know God and understand his revealed character. God is wealthy beyond human imagination; AND he is our Father. What's his is ours, because we are joint heirs with Jesus. Scripture makes it very clear that God is both able and willing to bless his children. Our God is a loving Father who withholds nothing, and gives everything he has, beginning with his only Son. In his own words, Jesus came to give us abundant life.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ. Ephesians 1:3

Seeing that his divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of him who called us to glory and virtue. 2 Peter 1:3

It has always been God's practice to bless those who obey him. Consider the Bible's testimony of Abraham:

The Lord has greatly blessed [Abraham], so that he has become rich; and he has given him flocks and herds, and silver and gold, and servants and maids, and camels and donkeys. Genesis 24:35

First, since God does not show partiality (Acts 10:34), anything available to Abraham is available to anyone who walks in the same manner with God. Second, we have been given a better covenant with better promises, as detailed in the eighth chapter of Hebrews. Jesus didn't abolish the blessing, but the curse!

Prosperity is part of God's redemptive plan...

For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, that you through his poverty might become rich. 2 Corinthians 8:9

Prosperity was bought and paid for by the Blood of the Lamb, exactly like salvation and healing. Notice the exchange taking place: Jesus became poor, so that we could become rich. Compare this verse to 2 Corinthians 5:21, where we're told that Jesus became sin, so that we could become the righteousness of God. The "equation" is identical in both verses of Scripture.

Beloved, I pray that in all respects you may prosper and be in good health, just as your soul prospers. 3 John 2

Prosperity begins on the inside, in the soul, and works itself outwardly. The prosperity of, and in, the soul is the basis for outward manifestation.

God's laws of prosperity are diametrically opposed to the world's view. The wisdom of man says, "Get all you can and hang on to it with both fists." God has a somewhat different approach. Herein is the core principle of the kingdom of God; the very law he applied in "bringing many to himself."

Give and it will be given to you; good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, they will pour into your lap. For by your standard of measure it will be measured to you in return. Luke 6:38

Give, in order to get? Here is a pretty good example of how God "confounds the wisdom of the wise." Giving to receive is the direct application of the kingdom law of sowing and reaping. Jesus said the kingdom of God is illustrated by sowing and reaping (cf. Mark 4:26, 27).

He who sows sparingly shall also reap sparingly; and he who sows bountifully shall also reap bountifully. Let each one do just as he has purposed in his heart; not grudgingly or under compulsion; for God loves a cheerful giver. 2 Corinthians 9:6, 7

There is one who scatters, yet increases all the more, and there is one who withholds what is justly due, but it results only in want. The generous man will be prosperous, and he who waters will himself be watered. He who withholds grain, the people will curse him, but blessing will be on the head of him who sells it. Proverbs 11:24..26

God is able to make all grace abound to you, that always having all sufficiency in everything, you may have an abundance for every good deed; now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food, will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness; you will be enriched in everything for all liberality, which through us is producing thanksgiving to God. 2 Corinthians 9:8

For the eyes of the Lord move to and fro throughout the earth that he may strongly support those whose heart is completely his. 2 Chronicles 16:9
