Words

The Bible is the written account, or record, of the words God has spoken to and about his people. It is God speaking to us .

No prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God. 2 Peter 1:21

The Word of God is not a book. He is a Person.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. John 1:1

He is clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and his name is called the Word of God. Revelation 19:13

Jesus is the sum total of God's words. Made flesh.

And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw his glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:14

Then God said...[and the universe came into being] Genesis 1

By faith we understand that the worlds were prepared [framed] by the Word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things which are visible. Hebrews 11:3

By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, and by the breath of his mouth all their host. Psalms 33:6

And he [Jesus] is the radiance of his [Father's] glory and the exact representation of his nature, and upholds all things by the word of his power. Hebrews 1:3a

As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return there without watering the earth, and making it bear and sprout, and furnishing seed to the sower and bread to the eater; so shall my word be which goes forth from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, without accomplishing what I desire, and without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it. Isaiah 55:10, 11

The righteous will live by faith. Habakkuk 2:4b (Romans 1:17)

Faith in what?
Faith in God's word...

Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God. Matthew 4:4

How do we get that faith?

Faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ. Romans 10:17

What is the importance of having faith in God's word?

Indeed we have had good news preached to us, just as they (the Israelites headed for the promised land) also; but the word they heard did not profit them, because it was not united by faith in those who heard. Hebrews 4:2

Seeing that his divine power has given to us everything that pertains to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of him who called us to glory and virtue. For by these he has granted to us his precious and magnificent promises, in order that by them you might become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world by lust. 2 Peter 1:3, 4

These promises only work for those who believe them to be true. A promise is only as good (true) as the person who makes the promise, hence the person whose onus is to believe must know beyond any doubt ("true knowledge") that the character of the one who promised is absolutely faithful and not subject to change. The Word of God is Truth, truth is eternal, hence God's Word is changeless.

Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away. Mark 13:31

I will not break off my lovingkindness from him, nor deal falsely in my faithfulness. My covenant I will not violate, nor will I alter the utterance of my lips. Psalms 89:33, 34

The sum of your word is truth, and every one of your righteous ordinances is everlasting. Psalms 119:160

Bless the Lord, you his angels, mighty in strength, who perform his word, obeying the voice of his word. Psalms 103:20

He sent his word and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions. Psalms 107:20

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. Psalms 119:105

Turn to my reproof, behold, I will pour out my spirit on you; I will make my words known to you. Proverbs 1:23

When there are many words, transgression is unavoidable, but he who restrains his lips is wise. Proverbs 10:19

A man will be satisfied with good by the fruit of his words. Proverbs 12:14a

Jesus said, "These things I have spoken to you that:
• my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be made full." John 15:11
• "you may be kept from stumbling." John 16:1
• "in me you may have peace." John 16:33

The words which you gave me I have given to them. John 17:8a

The word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword. Hebrews 4:12a

In the exercise of his will he brought us forth by the word of truth, so that we would be a kind of first fruits among his creatures. James 1:18

You have been born again not of corruptible seed but of incorruptible, through the living and enduring word of God. 1 Peter 1:23

Keep your tongue from evil and your lips from speaking deceit. Proverbs 34:13

The mouth of the righteous utters wisdom, and his tongue speaks justice. Psalms 37:30

These signs will accompany those who have believed: in my name they will cast out demons, they will speak with new tongues. Mark 16:17

They were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit was giving them utterance. Acts 2:4

For one who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God; for no one understands, but in his spirit he speaks mysteries. 1 Corinthians 14:2

One who speaks in a tongue edifies himself. 1 Corinthians 14:4

Therefore let one who speaks in a tongue pray that he may interpret. 1 Corinthians 14:13

Now I wish that you all spoke in tongues, but even more that you would prophesy. 1 Corinthians 14:5

Therefore, my brethren, desire earnestly to prophesy, and do not forbid to speak in tongues. 1 Corinthians 14:39

Speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into him who is the head, even Christ. Ephesians 4:15

Let all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you; and let those who love your salvation say continually, "Let God be magnified." Psalms 70:4

I will say to the Lord, "My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust!" Psalms 91:2
