Q.  ARE THERE PREDISPOSING FACTORS TO NAIL FUNGUS?

Older age, male sex, and circulation problems including diabetes and high blood pressure are pre-disposing factors according to The Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology.  On the other hand race, a family history of nail problems or athletes' foot, and participation in various sports or gadening were not  associated with 
increased risk.

Finger nails take 9 to 12 months.  Toe nails take 12 to 18 months.
