Gingerbread Cookies
Gingerbread Cookies
- 1 cup butter
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 cup molasses
- 5 cups all purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
- 1 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Instructions:
Beat butter and sugar until fluffy. Stir together 1/4 C water and soda
until dissolved; stir in molasses. Combine flour and next four ingredients. Add flour mixture to butter mixture alternately with molasses mixture, ending with flour mixture. Chill for one hour. Roll out and cut. Bake at
350 degrees for 10-12 minutes. Cool and ice with royal icing and
crystallized sugar for a beautiful "snowy" look, or decorate as desired.
Gingerbread Pennies: Instead of houses or people, but out small circles from the cookie dough. Sprinkle with sugar and bake for 7 to 9 minutes. When cool divide into several batches and gather each in red or green plastic wrap. Tie with a ribbon.
