Baked Alaska
- 1 quart any flavor ice cream
- 1 9 inch prepared cake layer
- 5 egg whites
- 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 2/3 cup sugar
Instructions:
Stir ice cream to soften, Spoon into a 1 1/2 quart bowl, lined
with plastic wrap. Put ice cream on cake layer, Make sure you
cover with plastic wrap. Freeze until firm.
For merinque, beat egg whites, vanilla and cream of tartar
until soft peaks form. Gradually add sugar, beating until stiff
peaks form. Transfer cake and ice cream to a baking sheet,
remove plastic wrap. Spread merinque over all, sealing edges
to baking sheet. Place oven rack on the lowest position. Bake
at 500 degrees for 2 to 3 minutes or till golden brown. Serve
right away.
