Mostaccioli, Italian Style
- 2 Tablespoons olive oil
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 to 1-1/2 lbs. lean ground beef
- 1 Tablespoon salt
- 1 teaspoon pepper
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon parsley flakes
- 1/8 teaspoon sweet basil
- 1 can tomatoes ( 1 lb.- 4 oz.) ( If you can't find this size
use a 16 oz can of tomatoes and 4 oz. of tomato juice or V-8 juice)
- 1 can tomato paste ( 6 oz.)
- 2 can mushroom pieces and liquid ( 4 oz.)
- 8 oz. Mostaccioli noodles
Instructions:
Saute onions and garlic in oil. Add ground beef and cook until meat browns. Add remaining ingredients, except the Mostaccioli noodles. Break up tomatoes with a fork and bring to boiling point, stirring frequently. Reduce heat and simmer slowly about 1 hour or until sauce thickens. Cook Mostaccioli noodles according to basic directions on package, drain and pour into heated serving bowl. Top with sauce. Pass the grated Romano or Parmesan cheese.
Serve this with fresh salad and garlic bread.
Note: This dish is even good warmed up in the microwave with just a touch of water if it is on the dry side.
