Sopaipillas
- 4 Cup Flour
- 1 1/4 teaspoon Salt
- 3 teaspoon Baking Powder
- 3 Tablespoon Sugar
- 2 Tablespoons Shortening
- 1 1/4 Cup Milk (measure maybe be slight less or more)
- 1 inch Vegetable Oil for deep frying
- Honey
Instructions:
In a large bowl, first sift the flour and then
measure the 4 cups of flour and add the salt,
baking powder, and sugar. Sift again.
Cut in the shortening.
Add milk to make a soft dough just firm enough to roll.
Cover bowl and let dough rest for 30 to 60 minutes.
Roll 1/4 inch (.75 cm) thick on lightly floured
board and cut in square or rectangle pieces. You choose
the size you want your sopaipillas. I think 3x4 inches
is a nice size.
In a frying pan, add about 1 inch of vegetable oil
and heat to about 370-375F (190C).
Add a few pieces of dough at a time, turn at once
so they will puff evenly, then turn back to brown
both sides.
Drain on paper towels.
Serve the hot Sopaipillas with honey. Enjoy by
opening a corner of the puffed bread and adding a
bit of honey.
