REFRIGERATOR BREAD & BUTTER PICKLES
So easy & wonderfully crips. Keeps all year in refrigerator. (I promise they won't last too long!) Your family will love them.
Fill a glass gallon jar with a screw lid with sliced cucumbers. Add 5-7 sliced onions, (if you choose you can even slice carrots thin & add them). Heat the following to a boil:
2 1/2 cup white sugar 3 cups white vinegar 1/3 cup salt 1 teaspoon alum 1 teaspoon celery seed 1 teaspoon mustard seed 1 teaspoon tumeric
Boil brine until sugar has dissolved. Pour brine over the cucumbers. Stir often. (at least for 2-3 days) I have even added hot peppers to one jar and make another with dill seed in them with all the same spices.
