The Night Before Christmas
2008

It was the night before Christmas,
and all over the State
Foreclosures were happening
at an unbelievable rate.

From Condo's in Boca
to homes in Deland
There were families on the street
all over the land.

The stock market was wild,
the dollar was weak
And the trading floor in Chicago
was no place for the meek.

People were crying
over their 401K's
As their retirement account
values slipped quickly away.

The middle class families
had no money to spare,
as they worked like dogs
and put gray in their hair,

Worrying over bank loans
and credit card bills,

Trying to make headway
up a long endless hill.

In the meantime our Congress,
that bunch of scholarly rogues,
had voted to bail out
the banking industry pogues.

Then the CEO's
of the auto industry said
while you're giving out money
don't forget about me.

We flew all the way to Washington
in our private jets,
To belly up to the trough
and see what we could get.

We're in dire straits,
we need help today,
as we gasp our last breath,
before we wither away.

As the taxpayers struggled
under this impossible load,
Congress spent money
like they found it in the road.

A I sat and pondered
the situation I faced,
I got up from my chair
and thought as I paced.

When over the airwaves
there arose such a clatter,
I turned to the TV
to see what was the matter.

In living color,
High Definition, no less,

Obama was saying,
"I can put a stop to this mess"

"A budget cut there,
a tax increase here,
And the middle class taxpayers

won't be living in fear".

"With Geithner in Treasury,

Hillary at State,

We'll make sure every American
has a full plate".

"A chicken in every pot,

collard greens in every bowl"
He smiled very slyly,
with a look that was droll.

Then he worked himself up
to frenzy of speech,

"We'll have the economy
in shape in 2 weeks".

His appointments became rapid,
his speech became slurred,

But with the economy in chaos,
I hung on every word.

"Now Clinton, now Schumer,"
he practically screamed,
"On Franks, On Boxer,
On Pelosi and Reid"

With the markets a mess,
and families going broke,
I hoped that he could do
all the things that he spoke.

But in the back of my mind
hung shadows of doubt,

Can we really trust government
to help the taxpayers out?

As I watched Obama
finish his speech,
I thought of hard working people
left out in the street

And the last thing that I heard,
as he faded from sight
Was, "You know a Democrat never
met a tax he didn't hike"

Thanks Miss Nancy
