On Silver Wings

        Jester's Daughter

She stepped out of the guardhouse not far from the front gate as she heard Beau call. Her eyes widened as her son did leaps and twists to get to the ground that only a jester or a dragon should have been able to do. "Beau, be careful!" She cautioned with a full heart, but with full knowledge. It was one thing for Ker herself to leap off a balcony with the misplaced Lord Jester, quite another for her son, her only son, to do the same.

She was a very protective mother, for all the good it availled her.

"Mother! Mother, she's here!" Her son shouted it at the top of his lungs and headed for the recently repaired main gate.

"She?" But as she said it, Ker knew. Kala. Her first daughter. Kala, her last living link with Taille Jester. Kristos, how she missed him. Ker turned her head, the rich brown shot with silver and focused her blue eyes. Yes, it was Kala. The dark-haired girl with the frail look of a princess stepped out of the coach as Marcus lent her a hand down.

Marcus was a good lad, Ker reflected, smiling as Beau raced to his sister's side. Marcus had taken it upon himself to watch over Kala. Personal guard, devoted friend. Ker often wondered if there was more. She knew that the current Prince of Eranesse, Kileon's human son, Artemis, was fond of Kala in a way Marcus didn't like, but Marcus was always the perfect gentleman and Beau adored him. Beau trusted Marcus completely with the protection of his sister, something that Beau had never allowed anyone, until he had met and tested Marcus himself in a slow developing friendship and several shows of strength.

After greeting his sister, Beau turned, his face visible to his mother from her distance away. He was smiling with utter joy and she sighed to see it. So like the man who helped give him life. She shook her head and took a deep breath, then laughed to see Beau lift Marcus, a taller, heavier man, off his feet and swing him around much the same way he had Kala.

"MARCUS!" the shout rose up to Ker's ears, above Gamewell and into the skies. "MARCUS you've brought her home!"
