Shad Grey slid his pistol back into his coat. Both he and Azerth hovered around Mera making sure the young woman was doing okay after the visit from Locutus. It may have been Terra who was injured but it was Mera they were both more interested in.Mera folded her arms over her chest in a self-hug, still feeling the chill of the reverends presence. She assured them she was fine which caused both the young men to relax slightly. She sent a nod to Rachael who had entered as Locutus had made his escape.
Maraetha held her head in her hands, trying desperately to sort out some of the evening's events so far. She didn't even acknowledge her so-called 'brother's' presence.
Mera talked with Azerth, just a normal conversation that served to lift the gloom that had settled around her after the reverend's visit. She noted Rachael tapping her nails impatiently upon the receptionist's desk and made her way over to her. After all, she was supposed to be on duty. "Can I help you?"
"Yeah, I have this, uhm, headache that won't quit. Can you give me something for it?"
"You have any other problems, symptoms?" Mera's brows knitted as she reached into a drawer for a bottle of mild painkillers. She handed it over to Rachael. "Take two with a full glass of water." She hadn't really expected an answer to her question and wasn't surprised when she didn't get one.
Rachael nodded and handed over some supplies in trade for the medication. "Here, take these."
Moving towards Shad and Maraetha, Mera directed Rachael towards the café to get some water to take with the pills. She'd kept half an ear on the conversation between the supposed brother and sister. She didn't know quite what to make of it and it seemed that Maraetha didn't either. It didn't take her long to clean up the scratches and other minor injuries Maraetha had gotten in the fight at Club Abyss. As she finished up, she smiled. "There, that should hold you for a while."
Maraetha smiled weakly to her. "Thanks"
Azerth ran a hand through his hair. A yawn escaped his lips. He watched Mera, a pleasant sight to be sure, as she tended to Maraetha. Not the most exciting of nights but he couldn't fault the scenery any. He listened to the talk between the three, about Maraetha being Shad's sister with half an ear. Another time he might have found the young woman's confusion amusing but at the moment it didn't seem all that funny. She was finding a family she didn't know she had and he knew he wasn't ever going to be that lucky.
After getting herself a tall glass of water in the cafeteria, Rachael moved back into the lobby to observe. That is what she'd come here to do for her beloved brother. She took in everyone who stepped through the front doors of the hospital. She mentally checked off names as each person entered and who greeted them. Building up an intelligence dossier on individuals for her brother to use against them, if needed.
Another patient pushed her way into the hospital, holding her shoulder. Upon reaching the front desk she slapped her hand down on it. "Nurse?"
Mera poked Azreth in the side as she made her way back towards the front desk. "Can I help you?"
"Yeah, you got any Oexin back there?" Blood seeped out of her shoulder, staining her torn shirt. "I caught some shrapnel on the way over from back street. Are you listening to me? This hurts like hell!"
Mara did her best not to snap at the woman. She looked for the Oexin, a frown forming as she realized their supply had run out. She gave Shad a parting nod when he announced his departure. She'd see him again soon enough.
Lyghtess, the patient, was getting more and more annoyed. "Look, do you have tweezers? I need to get this shard out, it's cutting into the muscle. "I'm sorry, we don't have any Oexin left in supply. Here, let me see the wound."
Lyghtess turned her shoulder towards Mera, ripping off the last of the ruined shirt sleeve.
"All right, keep it still and come with me."
"Like I can move it." Lyghtess grumbled as she followed along.
Mera peeked into the ER cube that Terra had gone into with Rictor. "Terra, you have a minute?" Seeing she was still with Rictor she was suddenly embarrassed for interrupting. "Uhm, never mind."
Rictor glances up at Mera, his thoughts broken. There was so much he had left to say but it would have to wait. There would be another time.
"Hmm. Yes, Mera? Do you need me?
Mara gave her an apologetic glance. "I've got a woman out here with quite a bit of shrapnel in her shoulder. I may need some help." With that she withdrew from the curtained area and headed back for Lyghtess.
He rose to his feet. "I've overstayed my visit."
Her gray gaze shifted back to Rictor. "I want to thank you again and it was a pleasure to talk to you. I'm glad we had a chance to get to know each other."
Rictor held up a hand, shaking his head. "No need." He knew an opening when he saw one. "Perhaps you will have dinner with me some evening."
"I would love to, anytime." She favored him with a soft smile. When he reached out his hand, she extended her own, feeling the warmth of his skin. "Don't work too hard tonight, Doctor." Terra gave him a playful wink. She was definitely feeling a lot calmer now.
"Ah, but I do so love my work." He rubbed his thumb over the smooth flesh of her hand. Rictor allowed the hand to leave his own and turned towards the door to the lobby. Taking his usual shortcut he walked out into the battered streets for his evening constitutional.
With a soft sigh, Terra watched him go. Then she rose, straightening her lab coat she headed off to assist Mera with the patients.
"If you give the forceps, I can do it myself." Some hospital this was, couldn't even get decent drugs or a little help with a wound.
Mera made her way back to Lyghtess, handing over the forceps. Who was she to stop this impatient woman from doing herself more damage?
She dug the forceps into her arm, throwing bits of metal onto the floor as she removed them. "And you have no Oexin? I suppose you don't have a cigarette either. Thank you for your help!"
Keeping her cool, Mera gave her a small smile. "We have apparently run out. Supplies are not easy to come by these days."
Shaking her head in disgust, Lyghtess sighed. "How about some cold water?"
Mera noted the hopeful look in the woman's eyes. "Sure, water we have." She made her way towards the water cooler, and poured a cup of the fresh liquid."
Terra moved towards Mera. "Need help?" She gave her co-worker a smile, having noted the rude manner of the patient.
"Any bandages?" She looks down at her stained black pants hoping she'd get lucky. Taking the cup of water from Mera she managed to choke out a polite thank you.
She glances at Terra. "She got impatient and decided to do it herself." There was a slightly annoyed tone to Mera's voice as she rifled a drawer for some bandages which, when found, she dutifully assisted Lyghtess in applying.
Azerth noted Mera's annoyance and stepped over complimenting her on her skill. He watched as Mera's manner eased, as did her patient's. A few kind words later, he blew Mera a kiss and moved back to sit on a bench and observe again. He listened as Lyghtess expressed interest in doing a few repairs on the hospital computers, stating that her parents had worked on the Elliot super computers before the war. An interesting tidbit for him to file away for later.
Terra, seeing she wasn't needed, watched Caine giving something to Bliss. When he looked up she caught his gaze to let him know she wanted to speak with him.
With Lyghtess sent on her way to the cafeteria for a meal, Mera set about straightening up the area. It had turned out to be a very busy night for her.
