| What is the Two-way Bilingual Immersion program?
The Two-way Bilingual Immersion program is a program that allows students to learn in both English and Spanish. It is set up with 50% native English-speaking students and 50% native Spanish-speaking students, and all students in the program are exposed to both English and Spanish academic instruction. The program supplies an immersion model for the students to learn a second language and at the same time provides a maintenance model for the students' first language. It also acknowledges ethnic differences instead of segregating them, allowing the students to recognize and appreciate their own ethnicity while learning about and respecting the ethnic differences of those around them. This empowers the students to become effective participating members of a democratic society, a trait that is especially important as our society becomes more and more dependent upon other world societies. |
¿Qué es el programa de inmersión bilingüe?
El programa de inmersión bilingüe es un programa que permite que los estudiantes aprendan en inglés y en español. El programa está compuesto de 50% de estudiantes de habla inglesa y 50% de habla española, y todos los alumnos del programa están expuestos a enseñaza académica en ambos idomas. El programa proveé un modelo de immersión para que los estudiantes aprendan un segundo idioma además de proveer un modelo de mantenimiento para su idioma natal. También reconoce las diferencias étnicas en lugar de segregarlas y permite que los estudiantes reconozcan y aprecian su propia etnicidad mientras aprendan a respetar las diferencias étnicas de los que los rodean. Esto habilita al estudiante a ser un miembro efectivo y participante de una sociedad democrática, una característica especialmente importante en esta época en el cual nos hacemos más y más dependientes de otras sociedades mudiales. |
