Elizabeth Burke was born just before the turn of the 20th century to a wealthy father, who happened to be one of the most influential lawyers in Nashville. When Elizabeth was old enough, her father agreed to send her to a small, private, all-girls college. Upon entering college, Elizabeth quickly realized that her true love was science, more accurately, science of the mind. After achieving a BS in Behavioral Science, Elizabeth got her masters at Vanderbilt. She quickly set to work in a psychiatric institution. After a few years, Elizabeth gained the respect of her peers. It was then that she was promoted to a position that she truly enjoyed - performing experiments on her human patients. After years of experiments, it became known that Dr. Burke was teetering on the fence between sanity and a room in her own hospital. In 1925, after performing some highly controversial experiments, Dr. Burke was fired. She quickly set up her own private psychiatric practice. She operated out of her home in Brentwood. It was there that some of her most horrible crimes were committed, often hypnotizing patients "for their own good," then performingvarious experiments on them. In 1929, rumors began to surface about the malpractice in Burke's home. With an examination into her work at hand and her medical license threatened, Dr. Burke panicked. It was then that she was visited by an eccentric man in a lab coat. He said he had all the answers to her problems. She agreed to his proposal, but now she has only more questions to be solved. |
