Since the days of the pioneers, Clan Gangrel has existed in the territory between the Appalachian Mountains and the Mississippi River. In earlier days, they flourished in this area due to their ability to survive in the wilderness. Now that things have become more urban and industrialized, they struggle to survive along with their fellow Kindred. In Nashville, Clan Gangrel has always been a dominant force. Their numbers have always been strong, although they rarely involve themselves in the city's politics. When Andus Bralecus wandered into the area, he saw the potential for his clan. He quickly set out to organize the Gangrel and bring them together within the growing city of Nashville. Less than thirty years after Andy drew together a few Gangrel, Col. Douglas Clancy arrived on the scene. He originally followed Andy and worked to unify the clan. Lupus was there at this time. He became involved in the clan, constantly pushing for them to seek out the Lupines and destroy them. He met with opposition from some members who respected the shapeshifters. This began Lupus' distrust in clan politics.
Andy has tried for decades to change the Kindred community in Nashville for the better. During the 1960's, he created a so-called group of
Seekers. Feeling that Andy had turned his back on the Gangrel by assembling this multi-clan group, Col. Clancy set out to turn Andy's own clan against him. At this time, there were six Gangrel who resided in Nashville - Andy, Clancy, Lupus, Garth, Andy's childe Seth Ludlow, and the newest member, Donnie Hodge. Col. Clancy managed to incite some distrust for Andy within many Gangrel, and at the Beltane of 1988, Clancy confronted Andy with the Gangrel's dissatisfaction. That night was one that Nashville's Gangrel will never forget.
Clancy began such an uproar within the clan that members began fighting, but not for mere competition. It was after 1:00 AM when things really got out of hand. At that time, during a fight, Garth was destroyed at the hands of Seth Ludlow. Once the clan realized what had taken place, things were never the same. Hoping to weaken Andy's hold on the clan, Clancy threatened to go to Matteus (former Prince) with the news of Garth's death. Andy was forced to send Seth, his own childe, away from Nashville. Realizing that he had not managed to take control of the clan, Clancy pledged to one day remove Andy from the role of Primogen.
The events of that night did nothing more than divide the clan. Andy and Col. Clancy retained an intense hatred for each other. Lupus had little to do with the clan, although he did attend most Beltanes and equinox gatherings, while Donnie doubted the clan's potential for unity. Andy had almost given up on uniting the clan, but that only served the Colonel's purposes. Both clan elders worked on gaining the trust and respect of the clan's newest members,
Robert Holwyn, Carina, Simone Calloway and Lorenzo Vallegas.
After the destruction that followed the resurrection of antidiluvian
Niut'li'ia Chaula'a, clan Gangrel was desolate and defeated. Only Andy and Lupus remained. With his secret gone to the grave with Clancy, Seth returned to Nashville along with Aurora, who had helped him wage his war against the Ventrue in Clarksville. The Gangrel are smaller now, but there is a renewed sense of hope and clan unity.
