In Fiji, we managed to have an outstanding time altogether. From Nadi, we hopped on a boat to the island, Waya, in the Yasawa chain, where there is very little happening in terms of technology. The resort furnished us in a nice though rustic 'bure', which is Fijian for 'hut'. Ours was one of the nicer in the resort, and was paradoxically inexpensive. Thatch roof, thatch walls, framed in local uncut timbers, with the luxurious decor including tile flooring, running water, and an open air shower. The bed was equipped with a full hanging mosquito net, and was of course electricity free (Headlamps ROCK!)The place was really nice regardless of the sound of it. While there we befriended several other couples including Kathryn and Adam, Matt and Kate, and Dan and Lisa from the UK, and a realy nice family from the Yukon. Our 7 days were spent snorkeling, diving, hiking a bit, and generally hanging out on the beach reading in hammocks, playing games, and chatting. Overall, the whole time was immaculately relaxing, and when it was time to leave, we were in that strange state where we felt like we had been staying at that place forever, but wish we were staying longer to do a few more things.
