Kingdom Hearts, the joint effort of Square (the makers of Final Fantasy) and Disney (if you don’t know what Disney is, you’re retarded and just stop reading now), is a fairly decent RPG. Overall it isn’t bad, but it has a number of flaws, as you will see.

Story: You’re Sora, some kid that lives on Destiny Island with a whole bunch of other kids. A number of these kids are taken from other games, such as Wakka and Tidus from FFX. A mysterious being comes and disrupts your nice life and you have to travel through multiple worlds with your keyblade trying to find a chick named Kairi with your companions Donald Duck and Goofy. A number of other Disney and Final Fantasy characters appear throughout the game. The story is easily the weakest link of this game, as it seems to be geared toward little kids. It doesn’t help that the ending is terrible, and doesn’t explain anything (Note: This is the normal ending. There is also an alternate ending, and when I get that, I will update and say if that helps at all.) 14/20

Graphics: The graphics are pretty good, but definitely not up to FFX’s quality. Again, the mouths don’t always match up to the words, and the worlds tend to be pretty lackluster. However, a number of them are greatly detailed, and are a good representative of Square’s animation. 18/20

Sound: The sound isn’t bad at all. A number of the tracks are good enough to be listened to on their own. Each world has its own theme, and often will have multiple themes depending on the situation. 19/20

Gameplay: A crucial part of any game. Kingdom Hearts utilizes a Zelda type battle system in which the enemies are seen in the overworld screen, and there is no battle screen. I personally like this, but, as most people know, I’m a big fan of the Zelda franchise. However, when you use the targeting (again, from Ocarina of Time’s “Z-targeting”), you quite often will get a bad camera angle that can get you killed. The spell system is not the best either, and makes for slow spell casting. 18/20

Fun: Ah, the most important part of any game. This game be really fun at some points, but infuriatingly easy at others. It can be hard to find crucial items too (due to the camera angles). Also, in between levels is an atrocity known as the Gummi ship. It is an extremely easy and boring way to get from world to world and does nothing to advance the game whatsoever. Luckily, as you progress through the game, you don’t need to use it. All in all though, this game is worth playing. 17/20

FINAL SCORE: 86/100
