Graphics: The graphics for this game are some of the best graphics on the NES system. When you hit the opponent it shows sweat fly off of them and there face has expressions for pain, same for when you get hit. There's even parts where it shows you riding NES game if you ask me. Overall for this game I'll give the graphics a 17/20 Sound: This game has the best tunes for any boxing game in my opinion. I love the music at the main title screen and especially the music when it shows you training. The sound effects are pretty funny yet good at the same time. It has all these weird noises for getting/giving hits and when you/your opponent falls to the mat, and even when you when it has sound for the audience. I'll give the sound a 17/20 Story: The story is pretty basic. You're an up and coming young boxer and your out to take on the world. All in all there are 11 different boxers from the easy as pie Glass Joe to the inevitable Mr. Dream. It's not the best story for a video game, but then again it is a boxing game. They could have added more features, but it's NES. 15/20 Gameplay: I really love this game. In my opinion it is one of the best NES games. The first couple boxers are very easy, and the last couple boxers are very hard. The controls are pretty basic, a/b is punch, left/right is move, and select is the special punch. It takes 3 Knock downs to win/lose the match and in between matches/rounds they have these little screens with stats for both boxers (HINT: hold in select between rounds at this screen, and you will gain life). Overall, I'll give the gameplay a 17/20 Replay Value: This has a great Replay value to it. The boxers near the end of the game are pretty hard and you'll be fighting them for a long time. Even if you give up because it's too hard you'll come back and play more later because the game just has a special thing to it that makes it so addicting. This is one of the most addicting games I have ever played, and believe me; I've had my share of sitting around playing this game for hours. I'm giving it a 20/20 If you have an NES and don't own this game, then first off I don't know where you've been living because everyone I know that has an NES has this game, and second off, go over to Funco Land and pick it up, it’s only like 4 bucks; and it is worth it. FINAL SCORE: 86/100 |
