I’m sick of the Xbox. It used to not bother me, because nobody was buying it. But now, more and more Xboxes are turning up in people’s houses and are always being talked about. I’m going to attempt to break down why the Xbox is inferior to the PS2, and hopefully show some people that Xbox isn’t that great. Now, the first thing that pops into an Xbox owner’s head when you say “video game” is “GRAPHICS!” instead of “GAMEPLAY!” as that’s all the Xbox really boasts. When you look at games and compare the Xbox and PS2, it’s obvious that the PS2 has better titles. First of all, almost all good games that are on Xbox are already on the PS2. And before I hear any Halo shit on the message boards, know this: if you are stupid enough to spend $250 to play one exclusive game, then you are either just stupid or too rich for your own good. And from what I know, Halo 2 is coming out on the PC anyway. If you can read this, you have a PC. Look where your $250 got you now. I really would like to know what good games the Xbox has that the PS2 doesn’t. The Xbox is basically all about first-person shooter games, which I’m completely tired of. The PC is the ultimate platform to play FPS games on anyway, instead of trying to control things on that cheeseburger of a controller the Xbox has. Hey, it’s time to rattle off some games that the PS2 has that the Xbox doesn’t. For starters, how about Grand Theft Auto III/Vice City, the ultimate game(s) for Xbox owners (shoot as many people as possible in the least amount of time for thrills). Anybody who plays real games (RPG’s) is going to be sorely disappointed with the Xbox. On the PS2, you’ll find plenty…dare I mention Final Fantasy? I seriously cannot think of one real RPG for the Xbox, though I do admit Fable looks cool (assuming it ever comes out). You can find ANY genre of game on the PS2, while the only (sort of) unique thing you can find on the Xbox is FPS. And as I said, those should be played on the PC (save yourself $200). There’s a reason that the Xbox doesn’t sell in Japan: they’re not idiots. Not that I’m saying Xbox users are idiots; some of you are smart (unlike some of AOL users). More than half of the posts at the board about this are going to be “SUHT UPP THE XBOX RULEZ IT HAS THE BESTEST GRAPHIX EVRR AND THAT’S ALL A GAME IS ABOUT, MKAY?” About the graphics: they had better hope that they’re superior, because it’s all they’ve got to attract people with. And really, they’re not so much better that it’s necessary to have them. Things might be slightly sharper; that’s about it. I’ll also hear that the Xbox can do so much more than the PS2. “You can record music onto your Xbox hard drive and play it while you’re playing your FPS game.” Honestly, who cares what the source of the music is from? I am also capable of taking the CD that was used to copy the files onto the Xbox drive and just putting it into a stereo and playing it. I don’t dislike people that have an Xbox, I just feel bad for them. It’s just a waste. EA Sports (owners of Madden) have declared that Madden 2004 has online play only with the PS2. Rare, the company that Microsoft spent a ton of money on, has done nothing. What can they do? Rare used to make all kinds of games, but the only games that are marketable to Xbox owners are new FPS games and run-around-and-kill-things games that actually make you dumber while you play them due to their simplicity. The bottom line is that the Xbox has nothing on the PS2 at all. Nothing. Zero. If Xbox 2 comes out and actually has good games that I can’t just get on the PS3, I’ll consider buying it. It’s not like I hate Microsoft or anything (except for making Windows XP and that damn messenger program that gives me pop-up ads every three seconds). Graphics aren’t all that makes up a game. Some people think that they do, and you know what? That’s ok. It doesn’t matter to me; they’re just missing out on better games and wasting their money. |
