Story: Link is a kid living in the forest with a bunch of elves. A princess named Zelda in order to stop an evil guy named Gannondorf from taking over the world. Link has to travel all over the world, and even through time to save everything from this guy. Not a bad story if this was the first, or even second time Nintendo had used it. However, this seems to be the common theme of the Zelda franchise. While the story is enjoyable, I’m going to have to dock a point for originality. 19/20 Graphics: Firstly, you must take into consideration that this was released on the Nintendo 64, not the most top-of-the-line system today, back in ’98. Keeping that in mind, these aren’t bad graphics at all. It captures the essence of what you need to see, and I never had any problems with them. 18/20 Sound: I loved the music of Ocarina of Time. My favorite was the Gerudo Desert theme. In fact, a major part of this game has to do with the music you make with an ocarina. It is really pretty good, and I would give the game full marks in this department.20/20 Gameplay: Ocarina of Time was revolutionary in a number of ways. Firstly, the new concept of “Z-targeting” was used, and I think it came out well. Using the Z button, Link locks onto the nearest object of interest, anything from ladders to enemies to people. It also uses the C buttons to great effect. They are used with the Ocarina and also for items. Aside from the buttons, the gameplay is still good. You can roll, swing your sword, in fact, you can do just about anything you want. One complaint I have is that you can’t jump, but that doesn’t usually affect the game. That is my only complaint, however. 19/20 Fun: I really enjoyed Ocarina of Time, and most people I’ve talked to have too. For anyone who thinks they would enjoy a fantasy/adventure/rpg kinda thing, this is a good game for you. The only thing I could miss in the fun department is replayablitiy. Once you’ve beaten it, its over. There’s not really a point to playing it again, unless you really enjoyed it, like I did. All in all, I’d give the fun factor a solid score. 19/20 FINAL SCORE: 95/100 |
