The Turkish Final was held at the TRT TV Studios in Istanbul on February 14th, hosted by Bülent Özveren & Canan Oguz. The winning song was chosen by a jury consisting of members of the public.

The Modern Folk Üçlüsü (Modern Folk Trio) previously came 3rd in the 1978 Turkish Final in the group Anadolu Majör (consisting of the Modern Folk Trio & Nükhet Duru). Aysegül Aldinç & Modern Folk Trio came equal 18th at the ESC.
