My Best Days

I don't think I have had a "very best day" yet, but of the time I have lived I must say my best days were child hood days, you know, the kind when you are very naive and the world is a playground, heck, I remember when I was a little kid and watching T.V. they had a comercial telling everyone to keep America clean, it had little cartoon owls and other forest creatures, at that time I thought America was a theme park or something that had gotten dirty, and I remember asking Mom if we could go to America and keep it clean, lol, not knowing I was living in America! As I got older I went outside a lot, growing up on a farm and having a lot of woods and big yards to play in there was always something to do, and my one cousin by marriage was living next door, he was three years older than me, but we still hung out, since there wasn't anyone else to play with, so my younger brother, my cousin John and I would play in the woods and stuff all day, maybe come home for lunch, and in the woods was a lot of junked cars as some of you may remember me saying in previous posts, and we would play in them and the bus's and on old car carriers and stuff, we didn't worry about getting dirty, or getting hurt we didn't worry about having money, or having a roof over our heads, all we worried about was what on earth could we get into today? lol, those were the days. Some days we would just stay in my house or his and watch horror movies, I remember alot of Hellraiser and Jason and Freddy, and Mike Meyers, alot of other stuff, some days were MTV days, alot of "80's Hair Bands" as they are known now, I remember his favorite band was Poison, so in turn my brother and I's favorite band was Poison, stuff like that, I remember pretending we were those bands, or in those movies, and stuff like that, sometimes we were comic book hero's and stuff like that, sometimes we fought sure, but most of the time we agreed on one thing or another, my brother was the youngest him being 3 years younger than me and six years younger than John, my cousin, so he got picked on a lot lol. I remember hole days where we would just run from him and hide, his site wasn't that good and he had to have surgery on his eyes when he was real young so he sometimes didn't see us if wwe were hiding ten foot in front of him, he had to wear a patch on one eye too, and you know how kids are..... Not that I am proud of picking on my brother but, most everyone does it, and in turn has it happen to them. Anyhow, we would run through the woods and hide, and back to the house, we would hide behind my great grandparents, sometimes we would split up and hide, most of the time we stayed together, and we would have my poor brother begging us to let him hide awhile and play right for hours lol.

Sometimes my best friend Renee would come over and play with us, sometimes my friend and John's Cousin/half sister who turned out to become my step sister (don't ask) would come over, but I fought with her alot, a lot of hair pulling went on between me and her, she was the same age as my brother though, but a month younger. And if the adults were having a party or something, wow would there be a lot of kids to cut up with, and we would always show off by running off someplace and causing damage to something lol.

Heck one time I had went home for a bathroom break and my brother had went to my grandma's for the same, which was closer to where we were playing, so when my brother got back, (he didn't know I had left) he asked my cousin and his friend where I had went, my cousin had found an animal bone in our absense and he held it up and told my brother that it was all that was left of me, a werewolf had gotten me, my brother ran home crying on one path, while I was making my way back on another, I sure got in trouble from my mom on that one, and my cousin too, but it was a laugh and a half! Those were definately the days!

When I was in 11th grade I wrote a poem about some of this, so I will share it with you, but I was only about 15 or 16 then, so its a little rough!

Here is he poem that I wrote I was mentioning.....

An Echo of the Past

As I think of my old home
In the outskirts of Rising Sun,
I remember the childish faces from long ago
So forgotten and left behind.

Seventy five acres to roam free,
Ahh freedom, so missed.
We run though fields and woods,
We followed the creek and laughed.

Exploring paths of new and old,
Car carriers served as houses.
Old trailers and cars were adventerous,
The tires, our jungle gym.

Hide and Seek among the junk,
Cusomers laughing at inocent kids,
Five best friends, having a ball,
Five years ago in Maryland.

Junk yard dogs chasing squirells,
Horses runnin in grassy paddocks;
Kids laughing, an echo of past,
Seems so far away.

The smell of grease and trash-
While rummaging through junk,
Finding brand new treasures;
Thrown away by villans.

Young heroes fighting evil-
Battling to the death.
The oldest boy and oldest girl
Bossed around the lot.

Arguments and tears,
Running all day long,
Lets hide here, no lets hide there,
Hey guys where are you?

The sound of loaders and running moters,
The smell of gasoline-
A bark, a chase, the squirel runs up the tree.
Playing till dinner, and going home.

I remember it clear as yesterday;
Like waking from a dream,
So long ago I hear their voice,
No an echo of the past.
