| Turkey Tales by © tequalelu With Thanksgiving only a day away, I thought I would share a few of the families turkey tales... When my son, Paul was 5, he was a tinkerer...in other words he loved to see how things worked. He could take a watch apart and put it back together agian....and it would work, where before it was probably broken, hence the reason he had it to begin with! This Thanksgiving I had prepared a true 'groaning board' of food. There was a 26 lb. turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, candied yams, sting beans almondeinne, acorn squash, succotash, broccoli, carrots, and onions with cheese sauce, pumpkin bread, sour dough bread, corn bread, pumpkin pies, apple pies, pecan pies, applesauce cake......well you get the idea! (the list goes on......LOL) We had tons of family members in attendence and several friends....When the turkey came out, it took a heafty man to carry it to the table...it was placed with great relish in the center of my antique dining room table.....With that we heard the proverbial groan, and in no time, faster than a thought, quicker than a gun shot....Paul was out from under the table and racing upstairs! No sooner than we registered his flight than we all gasped in surprise as the turkey took flight! Had no one killed this bird?!? Then we noticed that as the turkey took to air, the rest of the table and food sunk...sunk to the floor with a loud crash! My darling, wonderful, inquisitve son had been under the table! Light dawned as we cleaned up what was left of the magnificent meal from the floor, the chairs, ourselves....Paul had been tinkering again.....he found the bolts under the table and had been turning them to see what would happen! They were the bolts that held the legs on!! when four legs, have four bolts turned to almost the point of falling off....then well....turkey surprise becomes the holiday dinner!!! |
