Cautions

Although when taken correctly, complimentary supplements can be of great benefit, there are some cautions which should be taken into account.
- There are certain Life Threatening conditions which alternative therapies should not be recommended for, unless under direct supervision of a Doctor or medical professional. These are:
- Tuberculosis
- Cancer
- Diabetes
- Epilepsy or Fits
- Kidney Disease (including Brights Disease)
- Paralysis
- Cataracts
- Locomotor Ataxia
- Glaucoma
- Sexually transmitted Diseases (including HIV and AIDS).
- Pregnant Women should consult a doctor if they plan to start taking any supplements - the exception to this being Folic Acid which it is recommended that all pregnant women should take. In particular pregnant women should avoid certain essential oils and Vitamin A, and any product such as multi-vitamins or Fish oils which contain vitamin A, as should any women who is considering starting a family, or who is breastfeeding.
- People suffering from Hypertension should not take any products containing Ginseng, or Vitamin E above 100iu a day.
- Customers on medication must always consult their GP before taking any supplements
- Kelp products should not be taken by anyone who is taking any medication for Thyroid problems, this includes Thyroxine. It is also not suitable for pregnant ladies. Iodine has the same cautions applied to it so it is very important to make sure that any multi-vitamins etc, do not contain this either.
- Dosages should always be followed, as should the instructions - which will both be found on the packaging. Remember that these dosages and the supplements recommended on this site are for adults only and will be different for children.
- Aromatherapy Oils. Anybody wanting to use any oils should be aware of the following cautions: Essential oils should not be applied directly onto the skin (the exception to this is Tea Tree Oil; they should not be taken internally; and certain oils are not suitable for the following people:
- Pregnant Ladies: should not use the following oils;
- Clary Sage
- Juniper
- Marjoram
- Peppermint
- Rosemary
- High Blood Pressure
- Skin IrritantThe follwing oils are not suitable for anybody who is known to have sensitive skin, or who is susceptible to allergic reactions:
- Bergamot
- Peppermint
- Tea Tree
- PhotosensitisationThe following oils make the skin more sensitive to ultra-violet light and should not be used before exposure to strong sunshine, sunbeds or other sources of ultra-violet light:
- Epilepsy
