The sound gem has 2 separate components, the play gem and the record cradle.

  

The sound gem is composed of the audio chip and a microcontroller that continuously reads data from the GPS receiver. When the location corresponds to one of the 'memory spots' it glows, making the sound moment accessible. When the sound is accessible the user can retrieve it by squeezing the gem, as a result the sound corresponding to the current location is played by the sound chip. The system is powered by your personal area network power supply.

The recording cradle is composed of special microphones, audio recording chip and a transmission module that sends the recorded sound to the gem. It records a sound moment that will be associated with the current location. To record, the user introduces the gem in the cradle, and pushes it down. When the cradle glows red, the system is recording. Release to stop recording. The system is operated by a rechargeable battery.
