The Forgotten Children

My dear brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus;
I would like to bring something of the utmost importance to your attention. Recently I was blessed to hear a gentleman from New York speak at our church here in Winnipeg. His name is Bill Wilson, and he is a pastor at Metro Ministries International in New York who is responsible for a Sunday school that runs all week long, with over 22,000 inner city kids. Many of us respond with utter amazement and awe at such a number, but I ask you to remember, that EACH NUMBER represents a human life, a young child lost in the streets of New York City. Bill told us horror stories of things he has witnessed on those streets, and I watched a video about how these children get caught up in the drug trade as young as 6 years old. When there is no love at home, and no food, they will do whatever it takes to survive. For many of them, the only love they know is what is shown them at the Sunday school. Well, Metro Ministries International also sends these children to a place called Camp Hope. When these children arrive, many of them have packed their own clothes in garbage bags, with no blankets, and only one or two changes of clothing. They bring dirty sheets, and they fear leaving because perhaps their Grandma will not be safe without them to take care of her.
To us, this might seem somewhat surreal, only a world we see on the telelvision. But I assure you, it is very real, especially for these little ones living it. Imagine, sending your own child off to camp with filthy clothes, no pillow, no blanket. Hits home when we think of our own children in these circumstances.
Why am I telling you this? Because I am asking you to help. The Camp Hope project needs help. I ask that you would find it in your heart to help these little ones. Any donations you can send I am sure they would appreciate.
Let's see if the Holy Spirit can move enough people around the world to reach out to these little ones that Jesus loves so very much!
Please help to bless the Camp Hope effort!

What Else Can I DO?

As I listened to Bill speak, I was harshly convicted in my spirit. He speaks in truth, and pulls no punches. He is very real, and does not candy coat the issues. God COMMANDED us to go out and minister to the poor. He did not say "Go minister to the poor if you feel led." It was a commandment!

Psalms 82:3-Defend the cause of the weak and the fatherless; maintain the rights of the poor and oppressed.

Proverbs 21:13-If a man shuts his ears to the cry of the poor, he too will cry out and not be answered.

Jer 22:16-"He defended the cause of the poor and needy, and so all went well. Is that not what it means to know Me?" declares the Lord.

I could give many more scriptures, but you catch my drift. We do not need to go to New York to help the poor. They are right outside our doors. The mission field starts there, at your front door. Like Bill said, "This is not what it is all about." as he pointed to the church, and the people. "This is only a small part of what it means to be a Christian. One person CAN make a difference."
And he is right. I can make a difference. YOU can make a difference. Let's get out there and make a difference in someone's life for Jesus! Feed someone, hug someone who needs to be shown the love of Jesus. Tell them that they are loved, and they are worthwhile. Whatever it takes...DO IT!

Thanks Bill, for opening my eyes. God bless you my dear Brother in the Lord.
