In the visual medium of the movie, women are often portrayed as sexy bimbos or vulnerable incompetents. Nausicaä is a wonderful exception to that trend, displaying qualities of true compassion coupled with strong leadership abilities. She guides her people in the midst of civil distress while seeking the answers to a devastated environment. Woven by the delicate hands of Hayao Miyazaki, this magical film has set the standard for anime excellence.
