January 31, 2008

To: Members and Prospective Members of the Madison Association of Watch
     and Clock Collectors

We had about 14 members and spouses at the December meeting. Our program was a
presentation on wood carving by Paul Anderson. Paul, an area resident, is a master carver
who has won national awards for his carving. He displayed some fine pieces of
Norwegian carving, as well as some very fine detailed carving (turning toothpicks and
matchsticks into links of chain). He demonstrated how he would go about carving a
missing panel for a kitchen clock. He made a photocopy of the piece to be duplicated,
and then used either carbon paper or heat to transfer the photocopied pattern to his work
piece. He also discussed how he would go about making some missing pieces on cases
members had brought in. Our thanks go to Paul for presenting together this fine program.

We discussed several upcoming events.

The treasurer reported we had $747 in the Treasury.

The Librarian had nothing new to report.

The Program Chair asked for suggestions for future programs. Internet horology was
suggested for the February program.

Elections were held. The officers for 2008 will be
       President Leroy Baker
       Vice President Jerry Fritschel
       Secretary Dale Beske
       Treasurer Paul Penshorn
       Program Chair Carl Zimm
       Librarian Jim Skrentny
       Regional Rep Leroy Baker
Directors Jerry Keiffer, Gordon Andersen and Paul Penshorn.

Regional Representative Leroy Baker reported that a regional committee meeting was
held October 22. No major changes are being planned, but a different door may be used
for entry to the Mart Room..

We had several items on display. These included a Turret design parlor clock of
unknown manufacture, possibly New Haven; and a Waterbury Renaissance Revival style
cabinet clock (needing some trim carvings). A 3D grandfather clock puzzle was donated
for use as a door prize..

Our February meeting will be Wednesday February 6 at 7 pm at the Fitchburg
Community Center. Our program will be a presentation on internet horology.

Sincerely,
Dale Beske
